Awake

By Suzanne Palmieri
Awake

The fog dissipates like a nocturnal ghost,
I'm at the Marina, on a deck made of toast.
Marshmallow sailboats bob in my tea,
and black licorice angels, surf in the sea.

Dark roast alarm, it shocks me awake,
Thanks for this book, you put on my plate.
Stirring my coffee, small tornado abrupt
silver spoon soldiers tapping the cup.

Sun rises and stretches it's arms around day,
orange wedges smile and rhyme with the bay.
Children are laughing, fresh squeezed little limes,
Tasting the life, and banana wind chimes.
My eyes having breakfast, a favorite song,
time becomes breezy, and distance is long.
Sweet salty morning, my favorite hue,
feeling awake, and thinking of you.
