LYRIC FOR SALE

it was fifty years ago
humankind fell really low
love went down
to the ground
it was mowed down by pure hate
in that town a small motel
peaceful loving icon fell
with big dream
high esteem
doctors said it was too late


he strove for rights to exist
his war cry peace and resist
do not fight
that’s not right
but let’s march and sing a hymn
his main weapon was his speech
and for peace he’d often preach
right to be
proud and free
in a land so sad and grim

we will write and sing
bout your efforts and your pain

promised land we’ll get
as you promised it to all
we will never let
your big dream to fail or fall


he had message of white dove
he had words or peace and love
color blind
peaceful mind
do not judge by shades of skin
leader of all the oppressed
golden heart inside his chest
say it loud
hate is out
civil manners should be in


but on that grim April day
hope would lose many a ray
when hot lead
hit his head
and his blood would stain this land
but the struggle will go on
and the dream will not be gone
let the dream
live agleam
we are marching hand in hand
