Letter to Sarah

To the woman who I never thought would be
Any woman, other than me
So many things I need to say
Advice to give
Reasons to stay
Words to consider
Things you don’t know
I have demons to slay
And stones to throw.

You have the heart of a man
I used to call mine
I fought and I lost,
And yes, I am fine.
Because our love was tainted, strained, and maligned
Stained with regret and steeped in decline.

To the woman who I never thought would be
Any woman, other than me

He was once a man with charisma and charm
Dripping with affection designed to disarm
But darling, I’ll tell you
His lies are not truth
Intentions not good ones
His motives uncouth

His poisonous beauty
It will play on your soul
Making you weakened
And ready to fool.

You have the heart of a man
I used to call mine
I fought and I lost,
And yes, I am fine.
Because our love was tainted, strained, and maligned
Stained with regret and steeped in decline.

To the woman who I never thought would be
Any woman, other than me

He’ll stare into your eyes
And fill you with hope
By making these promises
Then, cutting the rope.

Then one day, you will wake from it all
Battered and bruised
Sick of it all
You will think of this letter
And you will feel just as small

Because the man that you love,
That used to be mine
He’s more of a monster,
So yes, I am fine.
Because our love was tainted, strained, and maligned
Stained with regret and steeped in decline.

Oh Darling, you’ll wonder
Why you fought for this fool
You’ll desire to be free
from his gravitational pull.

You will wake with a purpose
And a desire to be
Somebody other than a replacement for me.

Dear Sarah

Driving home, tying my hair in a knot
Nervous and anxious
And tortured by thoughts

The road ahead,
Dark and unclear,
But one thing is certain
The end must be near.

I know that you're lonely
But you’re not like me
You have a partner
But long to be free
I have myself,
My guilt and my pain
The wind in my hair
Regrets that remain….but

Don't worry, baby,
I know what to do
I'm gonna keep singing
This love song to you…..

Don’t worry, baby
It's time to let you go
Its ok baby
This is what I know

My heart has grown impatient
And yours belongs to her
A love that cannot grow
Is a love that is not pure.. so

Don’t worry, baby
Its ok baby
It's time to let go
Its time
Its time
This is what I know.

I can’t hate it enough
I can’t need it more
The sound of your voice
The wanting of more,

As I drive even further
Across that line that I swore
I would never cross over
But clearly ignored,

The scene plays out in my head
As it breaks my own heart
Knowing we can’t finish
What was doomed from the start

But….
Don’t worry, baby,
I know what to do
I'm gonna keep singing
This love song to you..

Don’t worry, baby
It's time to let you go
Its ok baby
This is what I know

My heart has grown impatient
And yours belongs to her
A love that cannot grow
Is a love that is not pure

Don’t worry, baby
Its ok baby

It's time to let go
Its time
Its time
This is what I know.
