You heard it on the news today that you can stay outside.
If you don’t stay alert though, you’ll join those that have died.
Every time you meet someone and stand a bit too close,
there’s a risk you’ll give or take a deadly viral dose.
Even though the lockdown rules have begun to ease,
until we get a vaccine we’re ruled by this disease.
The virus lives on people and whatever’s felt their touch.
You have to stay away from each to slip its deadly clutch.
It’s not your fault the enemy can ride upon your skin,
to bring such lethal misery to friends and all your kin.
The best way to avoid all that is listen to the science.
Always use your common sense and give it best compliance.
Stay alert at all times.
Death by Covid’s such a crime.
Avoid all others, don’t collide.
That really could be suicide.
Rules alone are no defence,
if people don’t use common sense.
Sneer and think that they’re a laugh,
that might be your epitaph.
The heroes of the hour are the doctors and the nurses.
Crowd together stupidly and you will earn their curses.
Right now you may feel OK, bright and even frisky,
but every time you take a chance their work becomes more risky.
Don’t assume that if you’re hit, the symptoms will be mild.
Plenty lie in agony similarly beguiled.
So when you’re out to do your shop or travelling to work,
keep well clear of others, that’s where most virus lurks.
When it looks quite difficult to keep yourself apart,
move away or work at home, try and play it smart.
When crowded and there’s no escape, it’s good to wear a mask,
to cut down what we each transmit, that’s not a lot to ask.
Stay alert at all times.
Track and trace is on our side.
If you have symptoms, go on line,
or maybe just ring 119.
Test positive, you’re told what to,
just like those who’ve been near you.
This isolates the fresh infected,
before their symptoms are detected.
You’re much more free to go out now, but exercise due care.
There’s just so many places the virus hides out there.
Stay well clear of non-cohabits, even if attractive.
Just pretend that all of them are highly radioactive.
Be like Prudence Wisdom, not like Jack the Lad,
or you or someone that you love will soon be more than sad.
Many types of surface hide a hidden danger.
Virus might have landed there, off friends or a stranger.
It stays alive on metal, on plastic and on wood,
so when you get home, wash your hands, and use that soap real good!
Stay alert at all times.
This’ll never be an easy ride.
It’s tough to see but never touch,
all of those we love so much,
but holding out a little more,
is the only way to win this war.
Let’s save each other from the grave,
and lessen any second wave.
