Ever since my pops died, I was forced to take his place
Trying my hardest to please everyone to their face
And though it seemed I was taking it all in my stride
There were times when it felt like I was swimming against a high tide
It was understandable when I was still a bachelor
Cos then I only had myself to answer for
Now that I have my own loving family
It feels like they don’t want to let me be

My mums, 2 sisters, wife & 2 kids all in the mix
Though I need to be totally & utterly real
I caused some of the problems which kinda explains how I feel
I should have stood up for myself back in the day
And challenged some of the things that they would say
I should have listened & taken my dad’s advice
Rather than trying to play Mr Nice

Sometimes I feel like if my brother was still alive

Feels like a massive burden for my broad shoulders to carry
They may think that they’ve got the best intentions
But if they think of others rather than themselves & listen
Things would be much better than they currently are
And I wouldn’t have to feel like I have been pushed too far
