The Mice and the Ants

By Roman Romanov
There lived some mice in peace,
Eating tons of Edam cheese,
But today the mice have found
Only cheese rinds on the ground.
Mice are crying: “Give us, please,
One more truckle of spicy cheese!”
Suddenly – oh, nice surprise! –
They are bumping into rice.
They exclaimed with greedy eyes:
“Rice is also good for mice!”
Suddenly, in dirty pants,
Out of rice appeared ants.
“Our world is out of order!
We’ve survived a cheese disorder,
Now again we pass through crisis:
We’re deprived of our rices!”
This is how the mice protest.
Hearing this, ants bring a chest
Full of warmest, softest fleece,
And a piece of Russian cheese.
Ants have also brought to mice
Seeds – to grow their own rice.
That’s the way ants eased the mice’s
Hard and hungry time of crisis.
