The One
By Nadia Murray
I’ve been drinking every night,
Replaying memories of us till the morning light.
Us laughing, smiling, not giving a care,
The way you used to look at me like no one else was there.
You used to say I was beautiful, you used to mean it too,
Back when I believed in forever, and forever felt true.
But the memories have passed, and we're moving on,
Even if my heart don’t know you’re gone.
I still cling to your picture like it’s holding me tight,
Even though this bed feels empty every night.
All the beautiful magic we used to do,
All the late-night talks, all the "me and you."
So hold me close to your memories, tell me I’m not crazy
For feeling this way... tell me you’ll come back someday.
After you’re done messing around...
Admit that I was the one.
The nights feel longer when the whiskey runs dry,
And I search for that old pillow where you used to lie.
I close my eyes and see your face so clear,
Whispering promises I don’t get to hear.
The world keeps spinning, but I’m stuck in place,
Staring at the ghost of your goodbye face.
I’ve been drinking every night,
Replaying you and me till the morning light...
