Train Wreck City
By Deborah Palmer
Today’s the day I’m gonna start
Finally do something smart
Straighten out my back, clear my head, heal my heart
Intentions good, directions clear
But then Jack whispers in my ear
Another night gets washed away, another week, another year
Thing is, I have trouble letting go
Mistakes I’ve made have laid me low
Since you left I’m hollowed out, can’t move on, status quo
Welcome to Train Wreck City
Where nights are long and fueled by pity
Set out the mat for fools like me
Even I can see the irony
You won’t be coming to this town
But on my own I’m train wreck-bound
Should have stopped you, called your name
Everyone knows I’m to blame
And all I do is prove they’re right, still a mess, still the same
Welcome to Train Wreck City
Where nights are long and fueled by pity
Set out the mat for fools like me
Even I can see the irony
No way you’re coming to this town
So that leaves me train wreck-bound
All aboard, we ride for free
To this sad community
Maybe just your memory
Will be enough to rescue me
You’re miles away, but who’s to say
Maybe I’ll get home someday
Welcome to Train Wreck City
Where nights are long and fueled by pity
Set out the mat for fools like me
Even I can see the irony
You won’t be coming to this town
And on my own I’m train wreck-bound
