Sometimes Men Cry Inside
By Sean Pisano
Verse 1
Standin’ on the shaky platform,
in my twenty-dollar suit.
My buddies long sinceAC boarded trains,
to learn to fight, learn to shoot.
Was time for me to do my part,
join the cause, made up my mind.
Do what’s right, what needed done
not get left behind.
Verse 2
Dad drove us to the station
in his beat-up Model A.
A thousand words stuck inside,
pride blocking their way.
Mom, she wore her Sunday best,
Dad still sportin’ his overalls.
But standin’ there on that platform,
he never looked so tall.
Chorus
They say that men aren’t meant to cry,
we’re taught to hide behind our pride.
But when I left my world behind,
I cried a little on the inside.
Verse 3
Two steps back and a little bit shy,
stood the girl I’d wed three weeks ago.
Prettiest smile I’d ever seen,
hidin’ tears she refused to show.
We hugged goodbye, I turned to wave,
then climbed aboard the waiting train.
My Dad, my Mom, my Betty Jean
three brave faces maskin’ their pain.
Bridge
The train rolled on, and no tears fell,
my heart grew heavy as a stone.
With every mile, their faces stayed,
etched in my soul, I’s never alone.
Chorus
They say that men aren’t meant to cry,
we’re taught to hide behind our pride.
But when I left my world behind,
I cried a little on the inside.
Outro
Though I never shed a tear,
like my feelings were classified.
Even the strongest hearts will learn
that sometimes men cry inside. Yeah, sometimes men cry….inside.
