Spider On My Bed

By Bernard Morris
On my bed one night I saw
A great big spider crawling
To my Mommy I cried out
On my bed I was bawling
As my Mom came into my bedroom
She said to me,
“Oh my gosh! I can’t believe
You find that thing scary!”

“Like a very frightened leaf
The poor thing he is shaking
The poor thing tremble with fear
And anguish you are making
You are much bigger than he is
Afraid why are you
The poor thing is so scared
He does not know what to do.”

Spider on my bed
Spider on my bed
Go away I do not want you
Crawling on my head

“I think it’s because he has
Eight legs that’s why he’s scary
And because they are so very long
And oh so hairy.”
“Well how do you think he feels
About the way you look?
With horror fear and terror
The poor thing will be struck!”

“I know, Mommy, but I can’t help
Being scared of him
Please take him out and carefully
Put him in the bin.”
“I will do no such thing!”
My dear Mommy said to me
“He’s a living thing and
I will treat him humanely!”

Spider on my bed
Spider on my bed
Go away I do not want you
Crawling on my head

In a catcher she trapped the spider
And then she took
Him outside and then released him
By a nearby brook
“Goodbye, Spider!” my Mom said,
“And please do not come back
For my son is scared of you
In case him you attack.”

“As if!” the spider said,
“Your son’s much bigger than me
But to stay away from your son
I am quite happy.”
So the spider crawled away
And stayed away from me
With no spider in my bedroom
I was now happy

Spider on my bed
Spider on my bed
He has gone away and he’s not
Crawling on my head

I went to sleep but then at
Two thirty seven I
Awoke to find on my nose
A great big dirty fly
Then another fly flew into
My room then another
Soon my room was full of flies
So I cried for my Mother

“Please, Mom, ask the spider
If he will come back inside
All these dirty flies in here
Have left me horrified
So my Mom went and asked
The spider to come back in
The spider it came back in
And the flies went flying

Out of the window and I was
So glad they had gone
“Thank you, Spider, “I said, “Rest your
Weary head upon
My soft pillow next to me
For you deserve a rest
Of all the spiders in the world
You’re simply the best

Spider on my bed
Spider on my bed
Sleeping peacefully on my pillow
Next to my head
Spider on my bed
Spider on my bed
Sleeping peacefully on my pillow
Next to my head
