The Wind

By Wayne Chester
A wild wind and a floating leaf
Huddled birds in disbelief
Wind thrown trees blown side to side
Garbage cans with nowhere to hide
A strong South West she blows tonight
For dogs and cats its fight or flight

A pink red moon bobs from the clouds
The streets are empty, there are no crowds
Lock the doors and batten down the windows
Stoke the fire put on warm bed clothes
Cuddle down snug in your bed
Listen to her raw above your head

In the morn she will have gone
And the sun will shine were the moon had shone
Things look better in the light of day
Although not the same in the same old way
She left her message for all to know
I am nature and I will come and go

I bear you no ill and I wish you no harm
But the world was never meant to be calm
I hear her voice upon the breeze
This is when she is most at ease
She will rise again, there is no doubt
That’s when you are better off in than out
