Welcome to Yorkshire

Artist: Laufey
Artist's Description
These are lyrics that I wrote when researching Yorkshire, for a story I am working on. It is meant to be a proud sounding set of words, that salute Yorkshire, without getting too preachy... like the song "there will be bluebirds over the white cliffs of dover" I guess that was my influence

Welcome to Yorkshire

By Laufey
Howards Castle stood proud
Way upon high
The sunlight shone bright,
blinding my eyes
A most spectacular site,
I never did see
No other grounding
Said that's where he'd be

The county I loved
But had not yet seen
Came as a vision
Perfect, serene

Welcome to Yorkshire
A Yorkshire man said
He doffed his cap, some
and patted my head

Wandering the valleys,
With nought but bare feet
The rhythm of Foundries
At the end of the street
I wandered for miles
All across that fair land
My heart over-brimming
And my hat in my hand

The county I loved
But had not yet seen
Came as a vision
Perfect, serene

Welcome to Yorkshire
A Yorkshire man said
He doffed his cap, some
and patted my head

My feet became accustom
To the land that I found
Swale welcomed me
As I followed it down
Domain with such history
That is seen to this day
Why could their compatriots
Not keep honor this way?
