Shotguns And A Pickup Truck
Shotguns And A Pickup Truck
By
SHOTGUNS AND A PICKUP TRUCK
I took a trip out West
To see the mountains, the deserts and the plains
After driving all day I came to a town
I’m not even sure of its name
Must have made a wrong turn along the way
‘Cause where I was I did not know
When I saw her walking to her pickup truck
Carrying a bag of ammo
Chorus
Don’t you know
It was just my luck
To fall for a beauty
Who only wanted
Some shotguns and a pickup truck
I never thought this could happen to me
I’m as pure a NY’er as you’ll find anywhere
Could have sworn I’d seen all there is to see
Never dreamed I’d find a beauty so glorious and rare
She was the snow shining in the mountains
The prairies swaying in the breeze
She was the desert glowing in the sunset
She had captured the brilliance from all of these
Chorus
Don’t you know
It was just my luck
To fall for a beauty
Who only wanted
Some shotguns and a pickup truck
She laughed the first time she heard me talk
Then told me I was cute as a bug’s ear
She said why don’t we hang a spell
And go grab ourselves a beer
My whole life passed before my eyes
It was like a dream when we spoke
Then she said we would be good together
Why don’t you work for me as a cowpoke
Chorus
Don’t you know
It was just my luck
To fall for a beauty
Who only wanted
Some shotguns and a pickup truck
She had my head spinning right about then
As I could not grasp the concept of cowpoke
Believe me you’ll get used to it, she hummed
So after 10 years off I had to bum a smoke
I don’t think this is right for me, I whispered
As she handed me the paper to roll my own
Just stand by the truck and guard the shotguns, she sang
Then I heard myself scream but she heard a moan
Chorus
Don’t you know
It was just my luck
To fall for a beauty
Who only wanted
Some shotguns and a pickup truck
Her song became a snarl when she heard that sound
I can’t let a moaning cowpoke guard my things
They are what’s most important in my life
You cannot conceive the joy they bring
She had a point so I did not speak
It was time to beat a hasty retreat
I knew it was safer for me back East
At least when I’m home I can scream in peace
Chorus
Don’t you know
It was just my luck
To fall for a beauty
Who only wanted
Some shotguns and a pickup truck
