Moths

By Scott A
Moths

The city lights draw the moths into flight,
As the dance of the damned begins,
No one stops to think as they pour each drink,
As a penance for each of their sins,
They’re drowning in sorrows and losing tomorrows,
In a bid to numb their own pain,
Running away is a game people play,
When the level of their spirits wane.

Before you burn,
Before you burn,
Take your turn,
Before you burn.

A buttercup doesn’t need building up,
She only needs something to drink,
She says what the heck and throws it down her neck,
In the time it takes you to blink,
A withered old rose in tattered old clothes,
Is looking for company tonight,
Flying without care and singeing her hair,
Like a moth flying towards a light.

Before you burn,
Before you burn,
Take your turn,
Before you burn.

She lays down to sleep and can’t help but weep,
In a flat emptier than her own soul,
She starts to snore on her bedroom floor,
As the drink starts to take its toll,
She grabs at her throat as she starts to choke,
On vomit which comes up on its own,
The thought in her head says she’s already dead,
And she wishes she wasn’t alone.
