Malachy has a secret
He hopes Jesus doesn't know
He's not sincere in Confession
Just tells The Priest
He's "feeling low"
But seven Hail Mary's and
Two the Lords Prayer
Won't cover up The Demon
He's got hiding there
It may not come alive, Folks,
To haunt you in a pew
It's just simply this,
Hair Of The Dog That Bit You

It starts off so slowly,
Just a beer here and there
Soon you don't remember Sunday
Or how Monday got there
And you're constantly exhausted
In an angry fugue
You just can't accept its
Hair Of The Dog That Bit You

And you're telling all your friends,
" It's just a nervous tick"
Every voice-mail from a woman
Says,"Never call me, Prick!"
New dents in your car
And from what you have no clue
Other than
Hair Of The Dog That Bit You

And before your family comes
It's poured right down the sink
You can get through Brunch
With a story and a wink
But if they stay for Dinner
You know one fact is true
You'll be dying for
Hair Of The Dog That Bit You

HAIR OF THE DOG THAT BIT YOU

I was leaving my Virginia
Just because she made me think
Felt her valleys rising in the evening
From her fountains I did drink
And her mountains were so scenic
Snow capped beauties in the sun
But her oceans kept me drowning
So straight to the fields I'd run

We were just two lonely sparrows
Hiding Way up in a tree
I thought if I sheltered you
Then you could put your trust in me
But those lines we drew in dirt
The wind just swept away
To leave us holding on to nothing
Wondering what words to say

I am leaving my Virginia
Maybe it's just for the best
In these times of deep soul searching
We just can't settle for less
All my life I've been nomadic
Too much in a hurry to read the signs
The calling highway will always haunt me
More than what I leave behind
