VERSE 1
I don’t care about love no more
You left my heart on the floor
I miss you not being around
Instead of smiling I wear a frown
You said you’d met someone else
Like a rag-doll I was left on the shelf
Each night I cry myself to sleep
Tightly holding your kisses that I keep
I want to hide away underground
Until I’m ready to leave this town
I see your face everywhere I go
Memories I no longer want to know
CHORUS
I’m not so sure I’ll find love anymore
My heart broke because you wanted more
I’m not so sure I’ll find love anymore
I wanted a truce, but you wanted a war
VERSE 2
When we first met, I loved you from the start
I never thought we’d break each other’s heart
The sun always shone, there was hardly any rain
Where there was laughter now there’s only pain
I guess over time people tend to change
Plans are made only to go our different ways
I had everything I wanted in someone like you
But you’d had enough leaving me feeling blue
REPEAT CHORUS AND FADE
She swept into my life like a hurricane
And when it came to love she played the game
She had a persona that instantly blew my mind
A good-looking gal with a few tricks up her sleeve
She could take you in with the spells she weaved
But I instantly knew she wasn’t the marrying kind
V2
She lived her life on the edge with beauty and grace
And the more she took the more I happily embraced
I knew I was being taken for a fool, but I couldn’t let go
I was splashing the cash in exchange for a little romance
She didn’t do much, but she sure knew how to dance
And I was her doormat that went along with the flow
CHORUS
V3
I finally came to my senses and realised I was living a lie
How she viewed our love wasn’t the same as mine
And as much as I tried to change her it did no good
Our so-called love was just a fling I came to understand
Though she called the shots, I realised I couldn’t be her man
So, she left me to try her luck as a good time girl in Hollywood
REPEAT CHORUS AND FADE
V1
Drinking in a bar in Tennessee
I noticed how you were looking at me
I sensed there was an instant chemistry
I finished my beer and took a chance
I made my move, and asked you to dance
I was struck by your beauty and mystery
Sometime later I proposed marriage to you
The locals sang gospel as we said ‘I do’
While we kissed under a bright harvest moon
Just two young lovers with joy in our hearts
Our whole life ahead, till death do us part
Never thinking it could be over so soon
V2
A job in the city came a calling for me
With a flash car and a six-figure salary
A great career opportunity that’s for sure
Sacrifices were expected we both agreed
But I never thought that sacrifice would be me
I just wanted us to be financially secure
Chorus
But your dream was to be a country girl again
A simple life of happiness that knows no end
Yes, all you wanted was to be a country girl again
I ignored your concerns in the letters that you sent
You even shared your concerns with close friends
How’d you’d do anything to be a country girl again
V3
I got word that you’d been seeing another guy
And when confronted you broke down and cried
Looking for affection he seduced you into his bed
You tried to resist but he won over your heart
He gave you what you wanted so we had to part
Determined to achieve my own dreams instead
When I think of you, I allow myself a little smile
I still hold you close though we’re separated by miles
I too have settled down, so it came right in the end
The letter I wrote I never expected a reply
You never wanted to hurt me, you never meant to lie
You just wanted the simple life of a country girl again
Repeat Chorus and Fade

V1
She made her way to the city
With just a backpack and guitar
Leaving the poverty of her hometown
Hoping to become a country music star
Busking late into the evening
Playing through the sun and the rain
It wasn’t easy living hand to mouth
Trying to find fortune and fame
V2
Working as a waitress during the day
Playing the club circuit well into the night
Until by chance she was discovered
And catapulted into the showbiz limelight
Soon her name was on everyone's lips
The world loved hearing her melody of songs
Everything she touched turned to gold
To her adoring fans she could do no wrong
Ch
A naive young girl with a head full of dreams
Driven by ambition to succeed and go far
Writing songs on many a different theme
Oh the pressure of being a country music star
Constantly on the road aiming to please
Scared of losing touch of who you really are
Surrounded by people she hardly knew
Oh, the joys of being a country music star
V3
Every venue began to look the same
The constant touring taking its toll
No longer getting high through her music
Relying on her dealer to ease her tortured soul
She no longer knew the person in the mirror
Extra makeup to hide the lines on her face
Unable to accept her star could be fading
Her grip on reality lost in an empty space
Repeat Chorus and Fade
V1
She said she was a victim of circumstance
Whatever I did just wasn't enough
I bought her flowers; we hugged for hours
But I sensed we were no longer in love
I booked a weekend for two in Paris
In the hope it would add some romance
I don’t know how but we got into a row
And all because I asked a woman to dance
CHORUS
But I never thought it’d be easy
You do your best, that’s all you can do
But you've got to stand up and be counted
Otherwise bad love will crucify you
V2
I said I didn’t want to get married
I felt we’d hit a bit of a glitch
I was sipping some wine feeling just fine
But was ignored when I went in for a kiss
Decided to take myself out of the equation
We didn’t speak for over a week
I gave her a call she made me feel small
Now our future together looks bleak
REPEAT CH
She mentioned she was having an affair
I said that was news to me
She screamed in my face invading my space
And the language she used you wouldn’t believe
I accepted our relationship was over
In hindsight I had a lucky escape
She thought she was queen and every man’s dream
But her mood swings were just too hard to take
V3
I was out and about with some friends
When she happened to be passing by
She looked me up and down wearing a frown
And that’s when she started to cry
She told me she wanted to get married
And that she was expecting twins soon
She said she felt blessed but had one last request
To my surprise she asked would I be the groom?
REPEAT CHORUS AND FADE
V1
I’m a singer in a rock and roll band
And I’ve kissed many a gal across the land
With an ego that played a mean guitar
I was drawn to you by your eyes so blue
You reminded me of a girl I once knew
Your beauty outshining the brightest stars
We laughed, we joked, we shared a smoke
We even carved our names on a tree of oak
Then made our way back onto the dance floor
I was captivated by your mysterious smile
The way you dressed in incredible style
Complimented by your grace and allure
V2
I suggested we go outside to look at the moon
I tried to kiss but you felt it was too soon
Reluctantly I had no other option but to agree
You requested a song about someone you loved
Torn from your arms by the good lord above
And a heart that refused to set you free
I felt that I’d been in a similar situation before
A sharp pain, a bright light as I fell to the floor
Taken from this world to the next unintentionally
The stars shone brighter in that misty night sky
An angel appeared above, and you began to cry
That’s when I realised the person you loved was me
Chorus
I’ve sung many a tune about heartache that’s for sure
But this was a heartache I didn’t want to sing no more
I never thought for a moment my death was heavens gain
I dreamt of having further success and to live my life
Thinking I could raise a family by asking you to be my wife
But looking back I guess I was hiding my own tears of pain
V3
The dark is finally lifting and now there’s light
This endless void between us looks to be in sight
To pick up where we left off since the day we parted
No more living in isolation regretting a love lost
No longer the burden of having to carry our own cross
Those tears of pain will fade and mend our broken hearts
Repeat Chorus and Fade
