VERSE 1

Grief is a place I want to leave
But I'm bound by strings to my soul
Threads to a life that now I must weave
To make a blanket that keeps in the cold

CHORUS

Missing you so deeply
The void leaves me bereft
Here I am without you
It is life's grandest theft

VERSE 2

Can I have a soul that is free of all ache
Like that stone that gathers no moss
Rolling through life without a heartbreak
Unburdened by the fear of loss

CHORUS

Missing you so deeply
The void leaves me bereft
Here I am without you
It is life's grandest theft

VERSE 3

I look for your sign in a cloud or butterfly
I yearn to see you in dreams
Haunted with the sadness of our last goodbye
Driven frantic by what it all means

CHORUS

Missing you so deeply
The void leaves me bereft
Here I am without you
It is life's grandest theft

VERSE 4

I try to move on, leaving sadness behind
Like escaping the setting of sun
Knowing the new day that greets my eyes
Leads back to the darkness I tried to outrun

CHORUS

Missing you so deeply
The void leaves me bereft
Here I am without you
It is life's grandest theft

GRIEF

VERSE ONE

Monday, Tuesday, Humpday and then
Thursday, Friday, it's the weekend again
Saturday morning I have ham and eggs
Then I'm out the door on my jammin' legs
A kiss goodbye to my sweet lady.
I say, 'see you there'
She teases, 'maybe'

CHORUS

Oh you got strawberry, raspberry, huckleberry jam
blackberry, boisonberry, peach and pear jam
elderberry and mint that goes real good with lamb
But I can't live without my Bluesberry jam

VERSE TWO

On Saturday from one to five
I play the blues with some other guys
We do ole Muddy Waters and Stevie Ray
Our own John Campbell John and Marvin Gaye
Soulful, rockin' and off the cuff
But no fluffy pop or that metal stuff

CHORUS

Oh you got strawberry, raspberry, huckleberry jam
blackberry, boisonberry, peach and pear jam
elderberry and mint that goes real good with lamb
But I can't live without my Bluesberry jam

VERSE THREE

My fingers tap on the steering wheel
I hum the blues but it's not the way I feel
It's just 12:15 and the joints fillin' up
Happy people with half-filled cups
Toasting life with there choice of booze
And getting high on their love of blues

C"MON Boys, let's fill 'em UP!!

CHORUS

Oh you got strawberry, raspberry, huckleberry jam
blackberry, boisonberry, peach and pear jam
elderberry and mint that goes real good with lamb
But I can't live without my Bluesberry jam

VERSE ONE

You've all searched for something knowing it was there
You ransack every corner, flipping cushions off the chair
Scratch your head, curse the dog and maybe throw a fit
Take a look one more time and BAM, it's right where you left it

VERSE TWO

I've been with you long enough to know how this will go
A month or so you're back around wanting me to know
That you love me, here's some flowers, then you buy me dinner
You keep getting fat on love, but I keep getting thinner

CHORUS

Well, my dear, somethings have changed.
Here's how it's gonna be.
You can look forever, maybe then you'll finally see
That no matter if you search Halifax to Tennessee
I take a vow and tell you now,
I won't be where you left me

VERSE THREE

So I'm packing all my things and you can hold the door
Then you can forget my number and what you loved me for
Now it's quite clear to me and at last I realize
You keep trying to make me fit, but I'm just not your size.

CHORUS

Well, my dear, somethings have changed.
Here's how it's gonna be.
You can look forever, maybe then you'll finally see
That no matter if you search Halifax to Tennessee
I take a vow and tell you now,
I won't be where you left me

About Me

Bio

I have been blissfully composing poems and short stories for decades. Most recently I have added lyric writing to my passion for the written word. I collaborate with my life partner, Mike Campbell, who is a talented singer and musician. Many of the lyrics have been turned into songs. But I write so often that I have notebooks bursting with lyrics yearning for a relationship with music. I am eager and excited to have my creations on Songbay. And I would be thrilled if the caught the attention of a person who sees music in the words.

CV/History

I am a retired entrepreneur from the business world. Prior to launching my own businesses, I had employment in the creative fields of advertising and promotion and copy writing
