Will there be a golden age with fruit on every tree?
Will there be a better page of man’s sad history?
Where justice flows like water, covering all the land
Filling every valley and drenching every sand?
These are all rhetorical questions you see
The answers are perfectly obvious to me

At the final bell
The dead will all be dancing
At the final bell
No one’s left alone
At the final bell
Every question answered
At the final bell
Every secret known
At the final bell
All shall be well
Nothing left to sell
At the final bell

Will there be an answer for every question posed?
Will greed, cancer and war finally be deposed?
Will every tear ever shed by Adam’s sorry race
for the dear departed dead be wiped off every face?
These are all rhetorical questions you see
The answers are perfectly obvious to me

At the final bell
The dead will all be dancing
At the final bell
No one’s left alone
At the final bell
Every question answered
At the final bell
Every secret known
At the final bell
All shall be fine
No one left behind
At the final bell

Will there be an ending that redeems the author’s plan?
When the last act’s over, will everybody stand?
up and give the author a round of deafening applause
that resounds forevermore as the curtain draws?
These are all rhetorical questions you see
The answers are perfectly obvious to me

At the final bell
The dead will all be dancing
At the final bell
Jesus on his throne
At the final bell
Every question answered
At the final bell
The devil turned to stone
At the final bell
All shall be well
No one left in hell
At the final bell

The Final Bell

I used to know the way, the way slipped away from me
Somewhere along the road it got too dark to see
Don’t know where it went, it may not be far away
It may be in my hand, it’s very hard to say

I know when the way went all my love turned to hate
Now I go in circles when I used to go straight
Where’d it go, I don’t know, who took the way from me
I gotta find the way back if it takes … an eternity

I used to know the truth, the truth slipped away from me
Somewhere along the road the truth got too hard to see
Don’t know just where it went and I don’t know why it left
I may have let it go or it may have been a theft

I know when the truth went everything that was clear
Turned to haze and shadows, a blurry, gray veneer
Where’d it go, I don’t know, who took the truth from me?
I gotta get the truth back if it takes … an eternity

I used to know the life, the life slipped away from me
Somewhere along the road life turned to death for me
That death dwells inside me, like a parasite it feeds
And now all I can do is just follow where it leads

I know when the life went my will just seemed to wilt
Like a wrecking ball death destroyed all that life had built
Where’d it go, I don’t know, who took the life from me?
I gotta get the life back if it takes … an eternity

John 14:6

I came to the end of myself yesterday
It was like staring over a ledge
I came to the end of myself in a way
That made all of my nerves stand on edge
I thought to myself, where do I go from here?
Everything I’d tried had been so wrong
Then I had a flash and everything seemed clear
The answer had been there all along

(chorus)
It was under the rug, it was under the seat
It was between the rocks, it was under my feet
It was over the moon, it was down in the sea
It was outside the door, it was inside of me

I came to the end of my rope yesterday
It was like hanging on by a thread
I came to the end of my rope in a way
That I was living while I was dead
I thought to myself, where do I go from here?
Could there still be a way to get free?
Could it be something that was already clear
And yet still something I couldn’t see? (chorus)

I came to the end of the world yesterday
The face of God shone like the sea
I came to the end of the world and I’ll say
It wasn’t like I thought it would be
I thought to myself, where do I go from here?
Everything I’d tried had been so dumb
I just prayed He would give me ears to hear
And waited for the answer to come (chorus)

The End

The End

It is written somewhere that the truth will set you free
It is written somewhere that we see what we believe
It is written somewhere only God can make a tree
It is written somewhere we take nothing when we leave

It is written somewhere to live and let live
It is written somewhere the blind shall see
It is written somewhere you get what you give
That was written for you and me

Chorus
It is written in the books
It is written in the sand
It is written in the sea
It is written in the land
It is written in the scrolls
It is written in the chart
But it can’t be read until it’s written in the heart

It is written somewhere that we must choose who we serve
It is written somewhere that freedom is never free
It is written somewhere that we get what we deserve
That was written for you and me (chorus)

It is written somewhere, seek and you shall find
It is written somewhere, it’s best to let it be
It is written somewhere the blind can’t lead the blind
That was written for you and me (chorus)

It is Written

I’ve tried to fight and I’ve tried to hate / I’ve tried to rush and I’ve tried to wait
I’ve tried all of the above / the only thing that works is love
I’ve tried to run and I’ve tried to stay / I’ve tried the gun and I’ve tried to pray
I’ve cried to the skies above / the only thing that works is love
I’ve tried to quit and I’ve tried to score / I’ve even tried to try no more
I’ve tried all I could think of / the only thing that works is love

It don’t matter what you love as long as you love it true
As long as what you love is more important to you than you

I’ve tried it left and I’ve tried it right / I’ve tried it loose and I’ve tried it tight
I’ve tried all of the above / the only thing that works is love
I’ve tried to fly and I’ve tried to land / I’ve tried so hard just to understand
I’ve cried to the skies above / the only thing that works is love
I’ve tried to stick and I’ve tried to slide / I’ve tried to stand and I’ve tried to hide
I’ve tried all I could think of / the only thing that works is love

I’ve tried all the self help books, seminars, and gurus too
Yoga, herbs, incense, pills, but nothing could break through

I’ve tried pleasure and I’ve tried pain / I’ve tried normal and I’ve tried insane
I’ve tried all of the above / the only thing that works is love
I’ve tried to work and I’ve tried to steal / I’ve tried to change the way I feel
I’ve cried to the skies above / the only thing that works is love
I’ve tried to laugh and I’ve tried to cry / I’ve tried to change the way I try
I’ve tried all I could think of / the only thing that works is love

I ain’t saying love cures all, it won’t dry up every tear
But it will help you do things you can’t do out of fear

I’ve tried to crawl and I’ve tried to walk / I’ve tried to scream and I’ve tried to talk
I’ve tried all of the above / the only thing that works is love
I’ve tried to give and I’ve tried to take / I’ve played it straight and I’ve tried to fake
I’ve cried to the skies above / the only thing that works is love
I’ve tried it slow and I’ve tried it fast / I’ve tried to run away from the past
I’ve tried all I could think of / the only thing that works is love

The Only Thing that Works

I was on a date one night
She’d been on my mind all day
She asked, “Whatchya thinkin’, hon?”
I was thinkin’ what to say
I thought I said something nice
‘Bout her blouse so bright and red
Later on I found on that
This is what she said I said

You pretend that you’re a dog
I’ll come at you from the South
And we’ll kick it ‘till the flames of hell come shooting out your mouth

Chorus
Try to ignore what you
Think you thought I said, it wasn’t me it was just the
Voice inside my head
No, there really ain’t no
Need for you to fear it
It says some crazy things, but only I’m supposed to hear it

I was working late one night
Boss been on my case all day
He said, “Something just came up
Do you think that you could stay?”
I thought I said something nice
Maybe even told a joke
Later on I found out that
This is what he said I spoke

I have me a better plan
One that isn’t quite as dull
I stab you ten thousand times, then drink the blood out of your skull (chorus)

I was at a wedding when
Priest said, “Anyone object
To these folks here being wed?”
Okay, what did he expect?
Well, I didn’t know I spoke
Boy, did my poor face turn red
When I later found out that
This is what they said I said

“Yes, I’d like to add one thing
Hope it doesn’t cause a fight
Just don’t give him the same disease that I gave to you last night.”

Who Said That?

I tell myself I will be fine
I know I’m lyin’
But I believe
Yeah, it don’t hurt nobody else
It’s just myself
I must deceive

Chorus
False hope is all I got
I know it ain’t a lot
Everything has turned to rot
False hope is all I got

How do I get from here to there
When everywhere
is fire and rain?
Where do I go? I just don’t know
I got a car
but I need a plane (chorus)

How do I get where I must go?
I can see the snow
Everywhere
The lightning cracks, the sky attacks
A big black crow
Circles in the air (chorus)

A man can walk a thousand miles
With a spirit that
Is stout and strong
Without food, without drink
But take his hope
He won’t last long (chorus)

False Hope

Your love like ice is nice, but cold
Your eyes like wine they shine like gold

Your teeth so white so bright they glow
Your hands so smooth, they soothe, they know

Chorus
You are such a mysterious stranger to me
I wish I knew how to set you free
From the lie
I wish I knew how to help you die

Your waist, So thin, I’m in a trance
Your words, Your laugh, I have no chance

Your smile, so cool, you rule the roost
Your guile is like a dike unloosed (chorus)

Your lips, so red, so dead, so dry
Your jokes, so weird, so feared, so wry

Your thoughts, entombed, and doomed to die
Your will is bound around a lie (chorus)

Mysterious Stranger

About Me

Bio

I have been writing lyrics for a few years. In my songs, I try to explore, in deep and original ways, the emotions and conflicts that comprise the human experience. I use lots of imagery, metaphor, alliteration, and word play to communicate my ideas. I thought Songbay would be a great way to share my work.

CV/History

I grew up in New Jersey, where I worked a variety of jobs, including retail, customer service, and sales. But I always had an interest in writing and music. Some years ago I moved to the shore, where I live with my family.
