BRIDGE OF ANGELS

Waterloo Station, 3rd coalition
Legions of pinstriped suits
Fixed faced rush hour victims ,fighting for position
Tightly packed like red coats locked into square
Automaton eyes trapped in unyielding faces with nothing to share.

Endless heavy cavalry trains roll into view
Kaleidoscopic cacophony in this capitalist hue.
Rush hour carnage as the old guard ambles around
About to be made obsolete as digital replacements are found
So many daily campaigns about to be fought
As the Battalions alight and futures are bought.

No one really dwells on why this iconic place is so named
And of the 1000’s of sacrifices made so long go
To foil an acquisitive emperor’s game.
The melee disperses, under a four faced clock
A couple come into view...
A romantic encounter and illicit rendezvous.
They embrace like two generals suing for peace
About to escape from this battlefield
And yearned for dreams of release.

Waterloo Too

I was the golden ticket
And you said you needed me
I was the diamond you searched for
We carved out our blood names
On the oldest of trees
But you decided to ghost me
Without warning had gone
You never saw it coming
The silver bullet approaching
From a betrayed morning’s sun

*Chorus*

Are you a vampire
And bare your reflection
Mirroring your Soul…
And its ricochet trajection
I was a lamb after midnight
You were a wolf in the night
Will I be gone in the dawning
With just the scar of your bite.

The glint in your smile
From the cold place where you view
Your silk lined resurrection
And all that you do.
But there are people and places
Where your victims are not prey
The lights of the sunrise
Cast dark shadows where you lay.

*Chorus*

Are you a vampire
And bare your reflection
Mirroring your Soul…
And its ricochet trajection
I was a lamb after midnight
You were a wolf in the night
Will I be gone in the dawning
With just the scar of your bite.

SILVER BULLET

You made make believe
Feel like reality for a lost soul
Stuck in limbo...
With writing on the floor
The warnings of betrayal
Stuck in the revolutions of an ever-revolving door
We were meant to walk the catwalk
And turn at the stage’s end...
Hand in hand just like sweethearts
We missed the vaulted bend.

*Chorus*

We were stood just like Mannequins
Behind a frozen windowpane
You once danced just like a diva
Making fluid shapes so vain
But the melody just stopped
And in the photographer’s flash
We stared out of static windows
In a lover’s head on crash.

I thought I could win you over
Make your painted on smile start to shine
But you were working all the angles
Weakening our tight grip all the time.
I stood out for a season
Was the blue eyed boy in your head
But as I blink out like a resin automaton
I know that our love is dead.

*Chorus*

We were stood just like Mannequins
Behind a frozen windowpane
You once danced just like a diva
Making fluid shapes so vain
But the melody just stopped
And in the photographer’s flash
We stared out of static windows
In a lover’s head on crash.

There are things they try to keep from you
Things they don’t want you to know
Cold spectres at your garden gate
When inside you are all aglow.
Infrasound engulfs your senses
Conjuring a soon to be delivered fate
The rhythmic algorithms of your little world
Suffocated by an invisible deeper state.

*Chorus*

Tell me if am paranoid
And feeling things that just aren’t there
Tell me my house is still my castle
Without an invaded haunted lair.
Pinch me and convince that everything is well
That the strange noises in my head
Are not the sounds of Pavlov’s Bell.

In my bed I stare out of the window at strange lights
Flickering in the distance.
I contemplate this strange phenomena
The fragility of my existence.
Need to put affairs in order
Before it gets too late
The hands on my alarm clock spin exponentially
As if controlled by a deeper state.

*Chorus*

Tell me if am paranoid
And feeling things that just aren’t there
Tell me my house is still my castle
Without an invaded haunted lair.
Pinch me and convince that everything is well
That the strange noises in my head

Deeper State

I drove past your house; you had said you were out...
That we would meet in the morning and still had a shout.
But the light in your bedroom
And the soul music that drifted
The shadow of two figures making silhouettes
With champagne glasses lifted.

*chorus*

If you feel your distant heart beginning to waiver
Please don’t hurt mine
And do me a favour
Just let me know…
Because once I was your pin up
Your go to screen saver.

Tomorrow would come
Not for us but for others
I knew you were gone
With one of your lovers.
Listening alone to the news in my car
Breaking news was that you had left me broken-hearted
Had already moved on before we had parted.

*chorus*

If you feel your distant heart beginning to waiver
Please don’t hurt mine
And do me a favour
Just let me know…
Because once I was your pin up
Your go to screen saver.

The romantic getaway tickets forlorn
On the passenger car seat
You rolling like thunder
Under Egyptian silk cotton sheets
No need to Wonder
Was it me who just couldn’t see ?
That I was just loving solo
When I thought it was, We.

*chorus*

If you feel your distant heart beginning to waiver
Please don’t hurt mine
And do me a favour
Just let me know…
Because once I was your pin up
Your go to screen saver.

She's moving like a Diva
In her high rise, inner city home
Her dance floor just a tiny kitchen
Music fills her troubled mind
From the speaker on her phone.
Her children sleep close together
The fridge almost empty now
She is cartwheeling around the floor
Like a spiralling falling feather.

*Chorus*

No time left on her side
She still dances as if nothing else matters
Wishes that someone would wrap their arms around her
Before her morning alarm clock shatters.
Forgets about everything that has brought her here
The bad decisions so often taken
The sounds that fill her head
For a trapped life so forsaken.

A magazine on a coffee table
Of the perfect woman
Photo shopped to perfection
She pours out the last vodka.
From the door in her refrigerator.
Sees her broken self- reflection.
She knows in the morning
The men in black will surely come
To take away everything
With little sympathy for what she has become.

*Chorus*

No time left on her side
She still dances as if nothing else matters
Wishes that someone would wrap their arms around her
Before her morning alarm clock shatters.
Forgets about everything that has brought her here
The bad decisions so often taken
The sounds that fill her head
For a trapped life so forsaken.

For now she is consumed in beauty
Distracted in her high rise dance.
Stepping across her chequered linoleum
Like a show girl in a trance.
Escape measured by minutes
She can steal to heal a soul
Stuck here with no way out
Shakes her unkempt tresses from side to side
For a fleeting opportunity to feel alright.

*Chorus*

No time left on her side
She still dances as if nothing else matters
Wishes that someone would wrap their arms around her
Before her morning alarm clock shatters.
Forgets about everything that has brought her here
The bad decisions so often taken
The sounds that fill her head
For a trapped life so forsaken.

Gateway to the stars
The prophecy of the Mayan
Am I hear on my own
Under the constellation of Orion
Stargate to heaven
For those who have been chosen
Just random grains of sand
Scattered by oceans in motion

*Chorus*

Hieroglyphics paint a picture
Fleeting moments in time
Shadows have moved on from the scene of the crime
Nobody else left in this room
Just the gold spectre of love
And Tutankhamun.

Pharaohs & Demigods
What should I believe
You said you were coming back
No intention to deceive
Alone in the desert
Just mirages of wonder
Buried in the sands
That are deep windswept under.

*Chorus*

Hieroglyphics paint a picture
Fleeting moments in time
Shadows have moved on from the scene of the crime
Nobody else left in this room
Just the gold spectre of love
And Tutankhamun.

Another late night
Maybe it's time to go home
The bar stools all turned upside down
As you find yourself alone.

*Chorus*

Is this a vignette for the broken
A playlist for dispirited men
Seems that all late night taxis that take you home
Always play Tragic FM.

Just you and a glass half full
The rain outside, falls down like a volley of arrows
As you trudge through the darkness
Down alley ways damp and narrow.

*Chorus*

Is this a vignette for the broken
A playlist for dispirited men
Seems that all late night taxis that take you home
Always play Tragic FM.

A couple by a bus stop, embrace under a brolly together
Always comfort in togetherness, no matter what the weather.
A tattered sleeping bag in a shop front
Its occupants smashed in from cheap lager drinking
Anaesthetised for another night and tortured mental thinking.

*Chorus*

Is this a vignette for the broken
A playlist for dispirited men
Seems that all late night taxis that take you home
Always play Tragic FM.

About Me

Bio

An award winning published poet living in the mountains of the Lake District with a lyrically evocative style, who has been encouraged by numerous musicians and others to venture into the world of professional lyric writing.I have won the National Poetry Competition twice. Am inspired by a great many influences artistic, natural, spiritual, metaphysical and musical. For me lyrics need to be memorable & catchy but at the same time contain naked truth and something that sends a tingle down the spine on the first reading. I see the ideal musical genre application or interpretation for my lyrics being Indie, pop and rock. I am open though to musical suggestion interpretation and or collaboration. My favorite lyricists are Leonard Cohen and Morrissey. So many musical artists inspire me to write lyrics but it is the Indie genre predominantly followed by Pop/Rock Reggae that ignite the creative juices the most.

CV/History

Published Poet. Winner Of National Poetry competition twice. Compiler of playlists for Spotify. Serial lyric writer.
