(Verse)
There’s a house at the end of the street
Used to go there when I was a kid
The old woman living there was so sweet
And I loved all the things she did

She made cookies and served me milk
Talked about when she was young
Was always dressed in satin and silk
The kind of clothes where she came from

(Chorus)
She told me ‘bout her husband
How he went off to a war
‘Bout the letters that he sent
And what he was fighting for
How much he loved this country
Cared for all its good and bad
How he came here to be free
When he was just a little lad

(Verse)
With him gone she lived her life alone
Oh, she was faithful ‘til her end
Stayed by herself in that big home
Said she was glad I was her friend

Then when I went off to college
She baked me a fine cake
She was so sad that I had to leave
Said be careful for goodness sake. Then…

(Repeat Chorus)

(Bridge)
She died before I came back home
But sent me letters before she did
And once in a while we talked on the phone
But she always would forget. And…

(Repeat Chorus)

(End)
Yes, she told me ‘bout her husband

She Told Me ‘Bout Her Husband

(Verse)
Across this country we believe
That Santa flies on Christmas Eve
Around the world he will go
And all of the children know
Santa comes tonight

He guides his reindeer all the way
As all of them will pull his sleigh
Across the dark skies of the night
Through the twinkling of starlight
Santa comes tonight. Yes…

(Chorus)
Santa comes tonight
To make our Christmas bright
He’s bringing gifts for everyone
He’ll be there ‘fore the morning sun
So go to bed, turn off the light
Santa comes tonight

(Verse)
He’ll place gifts beneath the tree
Fill stockings up for you and me
Drink some milk and eat cookies
Then go back up through the chimney

Then off he’ll go to the next home
Where down their chimney he will go
To empty out his sack again
While his reindeer wait on him

(Repeat Chorus)

(Bridge)
Morning we’ll have eggs and grits
May wait awhile to open gifts
Until the kids are all awake
They can’t wait for goodness sake

(Repeat Chorus)

(End)
Yes, Santa comes tonight

Santa Comes Tonight

(Verse)
They knew Santa flew with his reindeer
from the North Pole on Christmas eve
in his red and gold sleigh filled with cheer
and with elf magic up his sleeve

Mom and dad went to bed early
and the kids sneaked down ‘round the tree
They rattled each package to try and see
whatever could this one be

Red, green, and gold paper wrapped them
the gifts they would all receive
And Santa would bring more with him
because they did believe. And…

(Chorus)
Was a chilly and snowy night
But all knew that Santa would come
He’d be there to make their Christmas bright
He’d bring presents for everyone

(Verse)
So they left Santa milk and cookies
Then they dashed back off to bed
In the morning they’d get goodies
Visions ran all through their heads

Santa made his Christmas rounds
He was there before midnight
Drank the milk and ate the cookies he found
Said mmm with every bite

Then he emptied out his big red sack
all under the twinkling tree
he made sure all the stockings were packed
and sprinkled them with glee. Yes…

(Repeat Chorus)

(Bridge)
In the morning all would see
What Santa left for each one
But for now it was time to sleep
they’d be up with the rising sun

(Repeat Chorus)

(End)
Yes, he’d bring presents for everyone

On Christmas Eve

Yeah, all I want to do

All I Want To Do

Was a long time ago we found each other
Sometimes it seems like just yesterday
All the ups and downs we’ve had since together
We shared them all, we’ve come a long way

It’s been quite a ride through all these years
Built good memories and our whole family
Our road has been filled with laughter and tears
In all that we’ve done, in all that we’ve seen

All these years we’ve had together
All these years we’ve had to grow
All these years we can remember
all the wondrous things we’ve known
No one can take away all the good and bad we’ve been through
And darling, I’m still in love with you
After all these years

There was a good reason we gave vows and rings
There’s been so much more than sharing a name
You’re still the woman that I meet in my dreams
Want a whole lot more good years of the same

(Repeat Chorus to fade)

All These Years

Sometimes I get sad
Get to feeling so bad
But I don’t know why
So I look up to the sky

Doesn’t matter what’s wrong
I just pray to be strong
Ask the Lord to help me
I know He’s what I need

Oh Lord I need you
I’m feeling so blue
Times are hard and
I don’t know what to do
But I know you hear me
and I know you can see
Lift me from this despair
I’m begging you please
Things are just so rough
and I need to be tough
Amen

I give it up to God
It helps me a lot
Feel better right away
He brightens my day

He is the real deal
has the power to heal
so I reach for His hand
ev’ry now and then, and, I pray…

(Chorus)

I know you hear me
and I know you can see
Lift me from this despair
I’m begging you please
Things are just so rough
and I need to be tough
Amen

Amen

Want a list of all my songs, select "Buy" then "Buy Songs" then the same as above to get the songs but select "Search."

You don't have to enter all the options in the "Buy Lyrics" or "Buy Songs" searches to do the search, but you do need to enter the buying option and the artist's name.

I've been writing songs now, seriously, since about 2002. And, I've written some great songs and lyrics which are posted here. In general, I'm not asking much for them, so I think you can do very well purchasing my songs. I hope you will agree!

I also hope you enjoy my music and want to play it for yourself. I have Country and Christian tunes here for you, as well as some lyrics that can lend themselves to Pop and Rock as well. And if you pick up any of my songs, then I wish you the best of luck in making them work for you!

Thank you and best regards,

Dave Johnson

CV/History

I wrote my first song in 1976. It wasn't too bad. But, I had a lot to learn. I've honed my craft a lot since then, especially over the last few years. I've been working with Pro writers on Songu.com, and they have been a big help. Now, I don't do demos on songs unless the Pros rate them with an A+ or an A. Anything less, and I toss the song in my trash heap. Hundreds of dead songs lie there! And most of the good ones, they are here!

I admit that some of my earlier songs are here that I'm not that proud of. But listen in, and you can find some gems in my catalog. I've posted over sixty complete songs here and a pile of lyrics as well. As, and if, I get sales here on songs and/or lyrics, I will be having many of those lyrics cut to demos. I just need the funding to do that with. I don't play well and I can't sing for my life, so the majority of my demos are done in Nashville!

So, good luck in your search for the songs that make you want to sing! Onward, and upward!
