Chorus
So Satan went to Glastonbury
late June two thousand and nine
he planned to steal a soul or two
in that English summertime

Verse 1
There was both rain and sunshine
at this crazy festival
and Satan came in a flash of light
he appeared fresh out of hell

Verse 2
But no one took much notice
of the devil as they raved
they smiled and blew him kisses
they gave him friendly waves

Verse 3
And so he stalked the festival
on cloven hooves he tread
though some laughed and pointed
no one was filled with dread

Verse 4
Bands played and people partied
and not one soul was lost
the devil he gave up trying
instead drank beer and danced

Chorus
And Satan went to Glastonbury
late June two thousand and nine
he planned to steal a soul or two
in that English summertime
Never did steal a soul at all
in the glorious sunshine

Satan at Glastonbury

Verse 1
You asked me to have a seat
did I want anything to eat?
Meeting in our favourite cafe
last week
I didn’t want to have some food
even though it all looked good
on the menu that you handed
to me
You said some words I couldn’t hear
even though we both were near
because you spoke with barely
a whisper

Chorus
And we both knew
one day
we would go separate ways
there was little to say
and we knew it

Verse 2
I was frozen in to my seat
and you didn’t try repeat
those words that you had said
to me
Though I’d not quite heard the words
I knew that they were not good
because you would not even look
at me
Then at last you raised your eyes
and the words were no surprise
as you said that you were going to
leave me

Chorus
And we both knew
one day
we would go separate ways
there was little to say
and we knew it

Verse 3
Despite the fact we both felt hurt
we sat there and said no words
meeting in our favourite cafe
last week
It happened on this summer’s day
just like any other day
but it wasn’t any normal day
at all
For the sky had filled with clouds
people talked much too loud
and the coffee now smelled so sour
to me

Chorus
And we both knew
one day
we would go separate ways
there was little to say
and we knew it

Bridge
Feeling so lonely
in the cafe we loved
just you and me
one last time
together
just you and me
in that cafe
we had loved
for our last time
together

Chorus
And we both knew
one day
we would go separate ways
there was little to say
and we knew it
And we both knew
one day
we would go separate ways
there was little to say
and we knew it

Separate Ways

Verse 1
You take a long journey
feeling kind of lonely
travelling alone
all that way

Its a rocky kind of road
that you’re on
rough and sort of difficult
a long way home.

Chorus
I’m thinking
this what you have chosen
it is your choice
Ii’s rough but you wanted it
yes you did.

Verse 2
We had a map of the highway
helping us on our way
seeing the route
to go on

But we lost that a while ago
lost our way
maybe it was taken
I don’t know

Chorus
I’m thinking
this what we have chosen
it is our choice
it’s rough but we wanted it
yes we did.

Bridge
A route so tough and so long
both lost on it and far from home
its hard and there’s no breaks
we’ll keep on walking, whatever it takes
yes, whatever it takes

Chorus
I’m thinking
this what we have chosen
it is our choice
it’s rough but we wanted it
yes we did
what we have both chosen
it was our choice
it’s rough but we wanted it
yes we did
oh, yes we did

Stony Road

Verse 1
See the stripes
know that sound
here and there
they buzz around
those lazy days
Autumn dazed
had their time
now fade away

Chorus
Late summer wasps I fear your sting
the scorching pinch as it slides in
latent heat from summertime
I feel you pain if you feel mine.

Verse 2
Sitting out
we know they’re there
on the table
in the air
drone and then
there’s no sound
know they’re here
crawling around

Chorus
Late summer wasps I fear your sting
the scorching pinch as it slides in
latent heat from summertime
I feel you pain if you feel mine

Bridge
It's it so bad to think that we should hide?
From an insect that can sting and fly?
Is it the wasp we’re hiding from?
Or a regret at summers gone?
That we’ are sad cos summer’s gone.

Chorus
Late summer wasps I fear your sting
the scorching pinch as it slides in
latent heat from summertime
I feel you pain if you feel mine
feel that pain can you feel mine?
Now it’s the end of summertime.

Late Summer Wasps

Verse 1
When the clouds form
and skies turn from blue to grey
that feeling, we know what’s to come
it’s going to rain all day

And I’m waiting
waiting for the rains to pour
but there’s none, neither shower nor sun
just a day of endless grey

Chorus
Time passing, a day of nothing
just waiting around
for the rain that never came
the rain that never came

Verse 2
See a sunbeam
as it catches distant hills
with a light in the dark we can hope
hope for sun again

But it’s soon gone
the sun didn’t plan to stay
and I feel the cold come, want to leave,
leave and go away.

Chorus
Time passing, a day of nothing
just waiting around
for the rain that never came
the rain that never came

Verse 3
When those clouds formed
and skies turned from blue to grey
that feeling, we knew what would come
was gonna rain all day

And we waited
waited for the rains to pour
there was none, neither shower nor sun
just a day of endless grey

Chorus
Time passing, a day of nothing
Just waiting around
for the rain that never came
Oh, the rain that never came
yes, that rain that never came
Time passed on a day of nothing
And the rain it never came.

About Me

Bio

Whether it's poetry, prose or song lyrics I've always needed to express myself in words. Hope you like some of my work.

CV/History

It feels like I've always written. My first short story was published in 1998 and since then I've had a play performed professionally and won a poetry prize as part of my MA in Creative Writing. I also have a PhD in Creative Writing from Lancaster University, UK, which spawned quite a few song lyrics as well as a couple of novels and a stack of poetry.
I am lucky enough to live on the edge of the English Lake District and I often stroll out in the hills for inspiration.
