I am waiting for God's grace
I am waiting for your broken body to rise again

Please rise again
please rise again
please rise again
Or must I wait for eternity?

Waiting patiently
I will stand by thee
Till Angels set you free
Or death shall come to me

Will you rise again
Please rise again
Please rise again
Or must I wait for eternity?

In fields of solitude
I kneel and pray
But the tears that come through me
They cannot wash away

Until you rise again
Please rise again
Please rise again
Or must I wait for eternity?

Your broken body

Colonel Slaughter sat high on his horse
With his hobnail boots full colours of course
And with sand in our eyes, blind horses and fools,
We followed the colonel's efficiency rules

Ever forwards into the desert we rode
Away from the mountains and rivers that flowed
With the blood of the men whose lives were but tokens
In a war we had lost, a Confederate broken

CHORUS
On the day that the colonel's brigade died
And into the valley of death we will ride
Repeat

The sun was so hot and the blue sky was too clear
But we followed the colonel through love and not fear
For he was our leader, our mentor, our guide
And he led us with honour and anger and pride

Then day followed day
In disgrace and despair
And the colonel marched on with a wild distant stare,
And a soldier behind me cried out in strange tongues
And he took his own life
With the pull on a trigger
Of a gun

CHORUS
On the day that the 7th brigade died
And into the valley of death we will ride

Blind faith for water
The trade was complete
As the colonel he led us
To our death in the heat
And with cracked lips and dry throat and broken heart cried
'In defeat we have lived boys, but in victory died'

On the day that the colonel's brigade
And into the valley of death we will ride

So into this valley of death I will ride
And this medal of honour shall fall by my side
and the men of the 7th shall die to a man
As their pride is restored in these harsh desert lands

On the day that the 7th brigade died
On the day that the colonel's brigade died.

Colonel Slaughter

Drunk in the corner of the bar
Shouting 'I'll hit ya'
Waving your fists around
Takes four men to shift you

Cops get called again
And throw you on the street
There's nowhere to sleep tonight
and nothing to eat

And its just another night in Mississippi
And the champion is out on the town
Just another night in Mississippi
When the ring is gone and the lights are down

You grab a bottle
Head down to the river
You've got no money left
and not much to live for

But you were once a king
The champion of the ring
A legend with a crown
Before life took you down

But now its just another night in Mississippi
And the champion is out on the town
Just another night in Mississippi
When the ring is gone and the lights are down

The dawn is breaking
And you're still here
With your empty bottles
And an empty stare

And you will stand once more
You'll get up off the floor
And maybe find a way
To make it through the day

Cus it's just another night in Mississippi
And the champion is out on the town
Just another night in Mississippi
Whent the ring is gone and the lights are down

The ring is gone

Verses

You take a whiskey for the road
I know its dark inside you
But when you feel alone
You know I am here to guide you

When the weight of the world
Is too much to bear
And its breaking you down
And you just dont care

Chorus
You gotta rise, rise rise,
You gotta rise, rise , rise,
You' ve gotta rise, rise, rise
Rise up stronger than you were before

Verses

Don't think no more of falling
Clear the bottles from the floor,
I know you will be stronger
Than you ever were before

So lay down you sorrow
Give me all of your grief,
I have my arms around you
And I'm all that you need

CHORUS

And you will rise, rise rise,
Rise rise rise
And you will rise rise rise,
Rise up stronger than you were before

Rise

Verses (the return of John's body to Hull)

We gathered in the streets
Fifteen thousand maybe more
To lay your body down
Upon the sacred ground

You were returned to us
From that bitter ice
So merciless
It claimed your life

Chorus
And did you call for Angels at the break of day?
And did they turn their backs and gaze away?
Maybe they would send a guiding star
To break you free when you had come too far

Verses
And did you chase the giants of the sea
Were you invincible and free
Or were you just a man
Their blood upon your hands

And did men stare with hollow eyes
And look up at the darkened skies
And did they dream of gods long past
Who'd break the ice like broken glass

CHORUS
Did you call for Angels at the break of day
And they turn their gaze away
You hoped that they would send a guiding star
To break you free but you had come too far

Rap section

And so I'll raise a glass to you
Those men so fearless and true
Their bravery it comes to me
Down through the centuries
And from this grave I'll walk away
But I'll be back some future day
And I will raise my hands and pray
And the quiet earth shall stay
And the quiet earth shall stay

Because I called for Angels at the beak of day
But they just turned and flew away
I hoped that they would send a guiding star
To lead me home but I had come too far
To lead me home but I had come too far

You pray for angels
