Be a stag upon my mountain.
Lay you down in my misty dell.
Cool your feet in my cold fountains.
Drink your fill in my deep green wells.
Lay your wild and lonely heart with me.
Lay your wild and lonely heart with me.

Bound around until your heart breaks
Its sad and lonely shell.
Wander ‘round my flowery meadows
Lupine blue and cherry bells.
Lay your wild and lonesome heart with me.
Lay your wild and restless heart with me.

Still, my mountain slumbers,
Though you thunder in my soul.
Hear- your approaching rumble,
Weathered rocks tumble below.
Lay your wild and pounding heart with me.
Lay your wild and breaking heart with me.

Breathless, watch you wander
Will you nibble at a rose?
Will you stumble on the rock slides?
Slip where the mosses grow?
Will you lay your hungry heart with me?
Lay your wild and lonely heart with me?

HIS RESPONSE:
Oh, I’ve wandered over mountains,
Wound around the purple hills,
Searched deserts for clear fountains
Sought rest in sheltered dells
May I lay my lonely heart with you?
May I lay my lonely heart with you?

Stag Upon My Mountain

Through the window pane I watch the world.

where does my love wander?

Waiting for the day he strides through the door

Where does he roam?

I dig the garden, toss the rocks.

Where are you resting?

I feed the chicks and wind the clocks.

Yet you never stray home.

Make a meal, sharpen the steel.

Do you think of me yet fondly?

Do you lie in a ditch or in another woman's arms?

Will your trav'ling days lead you home?

The summer ends, the autumn's come.

Someone saw you down in Yorktown.

I stack the wood for winter time

Frost feathers the pane between us.

For too many years I've jumped at a bump.

and pushed back the curtain

To see if you would wander in.

Your welcome now uncertain.

I"ll wait no more years for your ballyhoo.

I sit by the fire with a beau

who'll hang his hat beside the door

And melt the frost 'neath the curtain.

The Curtain

"The snail does the will of God slowly."

The pigeon does His will in the air.

The bramble finds His will in cracks and crannies.

May I do the will of God as well.

The horse does the will of God in the grasses.

The bee does the will of God with a pollen load.

The tree does the will of God stretching up in the sky.

May I do the will of God as well.

The mushroom does the will of God in the woodlands.

The cacti do God's will in rocks and sand.

Whales roll with God's will in the deep blue ocean.

Shall I do the will of God as well?

The child in the chair does the will of God rolling.

The simple do His will and jump for joy.

The blind, the still, the sad ones do His will through the night

Will I do the will of God as well?

I have come to do thy will

Here I am, send me

Speak, my ears are listening.

Lord, your messenger I'll be!

Stag Upon My Mountain

Through the window pane I watch the world.

where does my love wander?

Waiting for the day he strides through the door

Where does he roam?

I dig the garden, toss the rocks.

Where are you resting?

The Snail

The robin, the quail, the puffin too, the dove, the dotterel and cuckoo,

The hummingbird, heron and the loon coo soothing lullabies to you.

The bluebird, blackbird, bobolink are friendly fellows, don't you think?

The thrush, the warbler and the wren, the titmouse, towhee, tern and then...

I cannot fly so here I stand,

I have no wings just fingered hands

And so I jump and dip and flip and sing with the birds of the air-e-o!

The kingfisher, kittiwake and killdeer have feathers covering up their ears.

The egret, eagle and chick-a-dee have pinfeathers, down and primaries.

The magpie, marsh hen, meadowlark, the mockingbird and myna dark,

The orieole, owl and waxwing do what you and I would be wantin' to.

The parrot, the perigrine and puffin too, the penguin, pelican and cock-a-too

Will join the flapping flocks above of feathered friends and lovebird love.

The birds they watch us rush around with fears and tears and anxious frowns.

They cock their heads and blink their eyes at the sillies on the ground-e-o.

Sometimes we notice their acrobats, tippin', wingin' with flippin' flaps

And wonder why we worry so with bright, bright air a shinin'-o.

There are seeds and pods and wormies too and bugs and flowers and nectar dew

And leaves and air for swaying there, no whiney pines in the air-e-o! (Durum Doo…….)

Oh, I’ve wandered over mountains,
Wound around the purple hills,
Searched deserts for clear fountains
Sought rest in sheltered dells
May I lay my lonely heart with you?
