You and me together
It just doesn’t add up
Your teeth are chattering
Your eyes are red
You and me together
We’d end up in bed

You and me together
So many things left unsaid
You and me together
We’d end up in bed

When you’re talking
It’s hard to get in a word
When we’re together
It’s the theatre of the absurd

We’ve travelled far
But never seem to get anywhere
We just return to the same place
Staring each other in the face

You and me together
So many things left unsaid
You and me together
We’d end up in bed

If we were meant to be together
Was it supposed to be like this
Where’s the hearts and flowers
Surely there’s something amiss

It used to be your problem
Now I guess it’s also mine
Got to find some resolution
Maybe we were born out of time

You and me together
So many things left unsaid
You and me together
We’d end up in bed

Real Slow

Going to tell you everything
Everything you want to know
Going to tell you everything
But going to take it real slow

Let’s walk down to the shore
Watch the water ebb and flow
Going to tell you everything
But going to take it real slow

Sometimes you feel so good so real
But most times that’s not the way you feel
Got to take you somewhere you want to go
Going to tell you everything
But going to take it real slow

Some day soon we’ll look up at the sky
And together we’ll howl at the moon
Then I’ll tell you what you want to know
But going to have to take it real slow

Let’s drive a while downtown
Let these blues bottle up and go
Going to tell you everything
But going to take it real slow

Sometimes you feel so good so real
But most times that’s not the way you feel
Got to take you somewhere you want to go
Going to tell you everything
But going to take it real slow

Low Winter Sun

We set out early
The day had only just begun
The wind was blowing hard
The trees gave us shelter
From the low winter sun

Sometimes when you’re on a journey
You feel your life has only just begun
Remember to keep your options open
And pay respect to the low winter sun

Didn’t take me very long
To realise you were my only true one
We’ve walked together downtown
Sheltered by the high rise blocks
From the low winter sun

You can never tell
What you may become
One thing’s for certain though
You can’t escape from the low winter sun

We were late returning
The trains they didn’t run
The man at the station said
Was on account of the low winter sun

Sometimes when you’re on a journey
You feel your life has only just begun
Remember to keep your options open
And pay respect to the low winter sun

Saviour

Born with the same star sign but left it hanging in the wind
You were a mirage an invention of the night
Sometimes I could see you clearly sometimes you were out of sight
Knowing you were near me was my only source of light

Yes you're my saviour my mistress of the night
My one source of pleasure my one ray of light

Guess we all get cold in the winter time
The snow comes and the rain falls from the clouds overhead
Not sure you realise that without your inspiration I'd be dead
It's the way you understand without knowing
You've got the answer even though nothing's been said

Yes you're my saviour my mistress of the night
My one source of pleasure my one ray of light

Don't leave me without a final word of advice
You can count on my support you don't have to ask twice
I need you in a way you'll never know
You bring me alive you make my feelings grow

Yes you're my saviour my mistress of the night
My one source of pleasure my one ray of light

Hollow Words

So much of what you say
So much of what you do
It’s like a broken record
It’s trite and unrealised
And it just won’t do

I hear you’ve been to college
Even got a degree or two
But those words you’re speaking
Don’t come from the horse’s mouth
They’re someone else’s wisdom
Someone else’s fine rhyme
You’re just way out of line

Don’t say those words unless they ring true
They don’t have to be clever
They don’t have to be smart
Just have to be your very own
And come straight from the heart

I met a real poet
Whose words set him apart
And I thought of all your attempts
To make your words seem smart
It didn’t impress me then
And it sure as hell don’t now
You’re like a very old record
Lost in the sands of time
Didn’t get played much then
Too derivative is what the critics said
And turned their backs on you
And went back home to bed

Don’t say those words unless they ring true
They don’t have to be clever
They don’t have to be smart
Just have to be your very own
And come straight from the heart

Rain

We went all the way to England
But you said never again
Some days it was sunny
But most days all it did was rain

One day you got your hair done
Came out with such a beautiful mane
But you'd only got halfway home
When it got ruined in the rain

If we could live our lives in sunshine
We'd sing such a happy refrain
But we're going to get wet and sticky
Stuck out here in the rain

Guess we could move to Seattle
Have no doubts ever again
We wouldn't hold false hopes
We'd just be expecting rain

You gotta live life for the future
With a glass half full again
Knowing it won't take long before
That glass is brimful of rain

If we could live our lives in sunshine
We'd sing such a happy refrain
But we're going to get wet and sticky
Stuck out here in the rain

All Night Through

There’s a rhythm in my head
It’s a backbeat of you
Remember when we danced
Danced all night through

Sometimes you have to quit early
Give in to what your body’s telling you
But sometimes you gotta go on till you drop
Till the night is through

The music ebbs and flows
Sometimes fast sometimes slow
Songs you like some you just don’t know
Time passing so fast it flew
And we’re dancing all night through

Take my hand when the music stops
We’ve got a place to go
Where I want to make love to you
Make love all night through

All Night Through

Shadow

Flick the switch and turn the light on
Can't stay in the dark too long
Those cracks and creases they don't matter
Drop the glass and watch it shatter

Don't matter if it's dark or light
Because you and I live in the shadow
Dancing between the darkness and the light

We can learn to face reality
But spare us too much too soon
So turn the lights down low
A little more and that's just so

Don't matter if it's dark or light
Because you and I live in the shadow
Dancing between the darkness and the light

About Me

Bio

I'm a Brit living in (not so sunny) England. Passionate fan of Americana-Lucinda Williams, K.D.Laing, John Prine, Mary Gauthier and The Delines are on my gig list this year. Just about to go to Nashville and New Orleans on holiday. Looking forward to the Mavis Staples anniversary concert at the Ryman and a gospel brunch in New Orleans. I'm an ex-journalist and I write for pleasure. Hopefully my lyrics will give you some too!

CV/History

Ex-journalist in UK. Interviewed Michael Jackson, Paul and Linda McCartney, Paul Weller among others. Moved into publishing mainly magazines. Have been writing lyrics for about five years now and enjoyed some collaborations but looking for something more lasting.
