SMALL TOWN GIRL

Verse One

“You should be in London,” a stranger once said to me
“You’ll get noticed there - pretty girl”
“You’re wasted here, a small town like this”
“You’ll end up like the rest of us”
“Don’t hang around here to get your heart broken”...
by some dumb ass”....
“Go now, make something of yourself”...
He said, oh yes he did...

Verse Two

Oh I wished I’d listened to him
I should’ve listened to that man
Should’ve have packed my bags and gone that day
Gone to find a new life, a new love
Not looked back...

Chorus

Oh but I laughed it off,
Oh how those words ring true
Only got myself to blame
was too young to understand
Too foolish, to think...
To give him up
Oh to give him up
In love with love
Oh in love with love

Verse Three

So what did I do
Hung around for him
Stupid little girl.. stupid little girl
Thought he would be mine
Thought he would be there for me...
Wasted my time, wasted my life
Waiting around for him
Only for him... to break my heart...

Verse Four

So I sit here today
Think back to that day
Still in the same place
And yes... how i didn’t listen to that man
Oh so clear now
And so I nurse my by broken heart
After all these years...

Chorus

Oh but I laughed it off,
Oh how those words ring true
Only got myself to blame
Was too young to understand
Too foolish, to listen
To give him up
In love with love
Oh in love with love

Verse Five

So as the years have raced by
I see the same people
Talk about the same things
Day in, day out
Wear the same clothes
Do the same things almost every day
Don’t really have anywhere to go

Verse Six

Oh whoa, whoa, whoa....
Wonder if I’d taken that chance
Wonder where I’d be
Would have been somewhere else
Made something of myself
Had my name up in lights
Lived the high life
Wouldn’t have been tied down living this life

Chorus

Oh but I laughed it off,
Oh how those words ring true
Only got myself to blame
Was too young to understand
Too foolish, to listen
To give him up
In love with love
Oh in love with love

Oh no, oh no, oh no....

HEARTBREAK HIGH

Verse 1
Been searching through the darkness
Couldn’t find my way for a long time
I can almost see the green and the blue
The sunlight’s coming through
It’s within touching distance
I can make it, I know I can...

Verse 2
Oh whoa... you caught me blindsided
When you blew that fateful kiss
Been lost for a very long time
Wondering though dark times
You left me stranded when I needed you most
But I can almost see clearly
A new me, a new beginning

Bridge
Gonna run into that sunshine
Gonna ride that rainbow,
Gonna bring colour to my life

Chorus
Blink of an eye, all of your ugly truths untold
As loves true colours unfolded
I stopped...stopped myself from falling...
Falling from the edge of heartbreak high...
Heartbreak high, heartbreak high

Verse 3
I’ve walked a million miles...
Through the crowded forest of my mind
Trying to lose you time and time again
Trying to find me all over again
Running...running from me,
Running from you...
Yeh you took me to the deepest of shallows
Almost to the point of no return
Oh...you left no stone unturned

Verse 4
Spent days with my head in my hand
Days I cried myself to sleep
Days I roared with anger at you, at you
Forgot what blue skies looked like,
Couldn’t seem to find a way out...
As nights and days passed me by

Bridge
Gonna run into that sunshine
Gonna ride that rainbow,
Gonna bring colour to my life
Chorus
Blink of an eye, all of your ugly truths untold
As loves true colours unfolded
I stopped...stopped myself from falling...
Falling from the edge of heartbreak high...
Heatbreak high...heartbreak high...

Verse 5
oh I’m gonna stand tall
oh I’m gonna live again
I’m gonna love again
Gonna scream out loud...
I’m free again, free again

Verse 6
As light winds blow across my face
eyes opened wide...
I’m waking me up to a new day
With a new force...I’m gonna breath deep
And start again...start again...yeh....yeh...

Bridge
Gonna run into that sunshine
Gonna ride that rainbow,
Gonna bring colour to my life

Chorus
Blink of an eye, all of your ugly truths untold
As loves true colours unfolded
I stopped...stopped myself from falling...
Falling from the edge of heartbreak high...
Heatbreak high...heartbreak high...

Verse One
Here we are face to face, after years and years
Deafening silence around us
Can’t believe it, thought this moment would never happen
Oh God, I’m folding in pain, please somebody hold me up
I’ve rehearsed this moment over and over again... yet oh no..
I’m lost for words and I’ve got so much to say....

Verse Two
Wait a second, let me catch my breath...
I need some strength to tell you what it’s been like for me all of these years
The tears have run dry now, yet my eyes still burn
Looks like time has changed you and me,
Still, you stand there innocent faced... only I can see through you

Verse Three
Do you remember the first time we met, that cold November day
Hey whoa, I walked on air that day, felt so alive that day
Cold nights in the car, listening to the same songs over and over again,
We talked and laughed until sunrise
My god... I can still hear us laughing
And time seemed to race by
Oh hey... we were so young
I lived you, believed in you...

Chorus
You promised me the world and I could see forever
You said I was you and you were me
That together forever, we would be one
Thought I love was sacred
How could you walk away
You lied, you lied, you lied

Verse Four
You caught me blindsided when you blew that fateful kiss
Whoa.. didn’t think that was the last time we’d catch the sun.. no.. no..
Broke my heart, tore my life apart
Knew then I would never love again, no never love again
Yeah knew that was the beginning of the end

Verse Five
Went downhill, hit rock bottom
Been wondering through life like a little girl lost
Staring into thin air, trying to make sense of it all
Braved a smile now and again, held it together somehow
Lived my life the best I could
But oh no, can’t help yearning for our time again...

Verse Six
Do you ever think about us, do you think about me
You said you always would...
Oh but I’ve never forgotten the day you said goodbye
Your betrayal lives on...
If for one moment I could forgive, I would run back to you again
Fall in your arms again
Feel alive again...

Chorus
You promised me the world and I could see forever
You said I was you and you were me
That together forever, we would be one
Thought I love was sacred
How could you walk away
You lied, you lied, you lied

WAR CHILD

Verse One
Excuse me,
Yes you
Can you see me, can you hear me
I’m 10 years old...
Don’t worry I’m not gonna ask you to help me
It’s too late for that
Can you see the mess around me... oh but that’s not all...
There’s a bigger mess inside my head...
They’ve killed my parents, they’re over there
My brothers and sisters have gone, I can’t see them
We were playing just a few hours ago...

Verse Two
I just want you to explain to me why... make me understand
The reasons to this madness
They say God has a plan, want you to ask him on by behalf
What kind of plan is this, what kind of game is this.....
What kind of game am I supposed to be playing...
ask him.... ask him....
tell me... tell me...
Verse Three
As the echoes of guns surround me
I run out into the open
Fall to the ground
Raise my hands to the heavens above
Deafen myself with my screams
I’m crying out loud....

Chorus
Oh Lord thy kingdom come, thy will be done
Fly me away to faraway lands
Shade me underneath the wings of angels
Wash away my soul
Wash away my soul
In clear blue waters
Let me be victorious, let me be victorious

Verse Four
Oh ...there’s that man again, he’s dressed in black, he killed my parents,
He’s back again
He’s looking at me down the barrel of his gun
It’s not his fault
He’s not pulling the trigger
That’s being done by the man behind him
And behind that man, well there’s even a bigger man
Making it all happen
Pulling all the strings

Verse Five
You see I can only work out one thing in my little head
That he doesn’t like me
He doesn’t like my sisters and brothers, my mother, my father,
my neighbours and everybody else around me
You see it’s all about hate, just hate
That wretched hate...
Oh and power...
I ask you please sir
Where you gonna go with all that power
Do you feel powerful over someone like me
Someone who can’t fight back
Someone who doesn’t want to fight back

Chorus
Oh Lord thy kingdom come, thy will be done
Fly me away to faraway lands
Shade me underneath the wings of angels
Wash away my soul
Wash away my soul
In clear blue waters
Let me be victorious, let me be victorious

Verse Six
What happens to me now
Yes... I’ll be gone in a few seconds
Please say a little prayer for me
Don’t worry
It’ll just take a moment...
And I’ll be playing... on the other side...

Verse Seven
Yes... you’ll see me for a while
Oh..You’ll feel sad for a while
But you’ll get over me
After all... this is way too much to take in
Oh but I thank you, thank you for thinking about me
Even if it’s just... a passing thought....

Chorus
Oh Lord thy kingdom come, thy will be done
Fly me to faraway lands
Shade me underneath the wings of angels
Wash away my soul
Wash away my soul
In clear blue waters
Let me be victorious, let me victorious

WAR CHILD

That was the last time

Chorus
That was the last time I felt pretty
That was the last time I laughed
That was the last time my heart danced
That was the last time life was beautiful
Life was beautiful, life was beautiful.....

Verse One
I just want to have one chance before I die
Just one moment
To look into your eyes
Search for the truth
To see that reflection of me
To see you look at me
To see if the look of love
That was once there
Is still there..... staring back at me

Oh, oh, yeah, oh, oh, yeah

Verse Two
I just wanna feel the way I felt
Way back when
When we felt so real
So let me have that last moment
Just so that I know
It was all true
That I’m still there
Somewhere in your heart

Verse Three
And that I share your thoughts sometimes
That you think about those crazy times
Just want that one moment with you
And I’m sure it will all become clear
That I’m still there with you
Somewhere deep inside

Chorus
That was the last time I felt pretty
That was the last time I laughed
That was the last time my heart danced
That was the last time life was beautiful
Life was beautiful, life was beautiful.....

Verse Four
Just want one moment
To step back to the wonder years
To live love like how we lived it
To feel love like how we felt it
Oh...to feel you touch me just a little
once again, once again, once again...

Verse Five
oh..whoa... to think we were so close
yet we’ve strayed so far apart
that we barely recognise us
but I have to believe
oh... I need to believe
to have the strength to carry on
that we shared a love like no other
oh babe... like no other

Verse Six
So here I am
Reaching out to you
Asking you for the very last time
To let me be able to carry on
Just say it, say it for the last time
So that I can rest .... I can rest easy ..
That I can breath easy
Knowing that I’ve been there all along
Oh whoa...That I’ve been there all along..

Chorus
That was the last time I felt pretty
That was the last time I laughed
That was the last time my heart danced
That was the last time life was beautiful
Life was beautiful, life was beautiful.....

WHEN WE WERE KINGS

Hmmm.... Hmmm....Hmmm....
Hmmm...Hmmm....Hmmm....
When we were kings,
When we were kings

Verse One
As I cast my gaze over sunlit waters
My eyes fill up
As I think about times gone by
I smile...
And say to myself...
At least we had that
At least we lived then
Oh how... we had the best of us
When we wore crowns made of daisies
And rolled down soft grassed hills
And lay underneath that 70’s sun
When we looked through Kaleidoscopes and dreamed
those technicolour dreams

Chorus
I remember you
I remember you
A love that I once knew
Oh... when were kings
I remember us
I remember us
When we shone like gold
I remember times
I remember times
When we danced like stars in moonlit skies

Verse Two
life seemed so bright
so wonderful
So carefree we were
Just lived for the moment
How we’d talk endlessly
And laugh till we cried
And when you touched my lips with your finger tips
Oh how young hearts raced...

Chorus
I remember you
I remember you
A love that I once knew
Oh... when were kings
I remember us
I remember us
When we shone like gold
I remember times
I remember times
When we danced like stars in moonlit skies

Verse Three
Riding high on the wings of glory
We caught the sun time and time again
My friend.... We thought those days would never end
No never end
Built castles in blue skies
That’s where we were gonna live

Chorus
I remember you
I remember you
A love that I once knew
Oh... when were kings
I remember us
I remember us
When we shone like gold
I remember times
I remember times
When we danced like stars in moonlit skies

Verse Four
And when new dawns came
And horizons turned to shades of grey
And we slowly lost our ways
As times changed
When we could no longer hold on
Your warm embrace still holds true
I still hold you close
Forever in my heart

Chorus
I remember you
I remember you
A love that I once knew
Oh... when were kings
I remember us
I remember us
When we shone like gold
I remember times
I remember times
When we danced like stars in moonlit skies

Verse Five
And life didn’t quite turn out the way we thought
But still I hold you in my heart
And i’ll keep thinking
And I’ll keep smiling
As I think about the way we once were

Chorus
I remember you
I remember you
A love that I once knew
Oh... when were kings
I remember us
I remember us
When we shone like gold
I remember times
I remember times
When we danced like stars in moonlit skies

Hmmm...hmmm....hmmm....
Hmmm...hmmm...hmmm....

When we were kings
When we were kings.....

VENGEANCE

Chorus
No there’s no winners – just losers
There’s a rage inside and hell hath no fury like a woman scorned
And vengeance will be mine
As they say the pen is mightier than the sword and so I wrote this song about you
And you’ve made me rich beyond my dreams and now it looks like I have everything
Oh... except one thing, except one thing....

Verse One
Yes I sold my soul, broke my silence it’s out there for the world to know
To know what you did, undo the lies you told
You owe me my life, the life you promised to honour
You made yourself look good to everybody, made me look bad
Well I’m going to make you look even better now...

Verse Two
Read between the lines, do you understand, do you remember
Secrets and lies
You should’ve been true to yourself
Should’ve have been true to me
But no, oh no you hid behind the truth

Verse Three
You now have something to think about
Think back, think back
My life was not a game
Not one you should have played – walked in and out of
Do you now dare to deny the truth that you loved me
Damn you, damn you...

Verse Four
Yes history has a funny way of repeating itself and...
I’ve been silent for far too long, this is my moment of madness,
My day of reckoning has come
And I’m going to scream and shout like a woman possessed
So hang your head in shame

Verse Five
Look away, look away and I will too...
Can’t forgive or forget
You turned me into somebody else
Would love to hate you, but I can’t
But still...I’m gonna have the last last laugh,
I know it’s just a fake laugh, but I’m laughing anyway....
Never wanted it to be this way...

Hung around for him
Stupid little girl.. stupid little girl

Waiting around for him

So I sit here today
Think back to that day
Still in the same place
And yes... how i didn’t listen to that man
Oh so clear now
And so I nurse my by broken heart
After all these years...

HEARTBREAK HIGH

Verse 1
Been searching through the darkness
Couldn’t find my way for a long time
I can almost see the green and the blue
The sunlight’s coming through
It’s within touching distance
I can make it, I know I can...

Verse 2
Oh whoa... you caught me blindsided
When you blew that fateful kiss
Been lost for a very long time
Wondering though dark times
You left me stranded when I needed you most
But I can almost see clearly
A new me, a new beginning

Bridge
Gonna run into that sunshine
Gonna ride that rainbow,
Gonna bring colour to my life

Chorus
Blink of an eye, all of your ugly truths untold
As loves true colours unfolded
I stopped...stopped myself from falling...
Falling from the edge of heartbreak high...
Heartbreak high, heartbreak high

Verse 3
I’ve walked a million miles...
Through the crowded forest of my mind
Trying to lose you time and time again
Trying to find me all over again
Running...running from me,
Running from you...
Yeh you took me to the deepest of shallows
Almost to the point of no return
Oh...you left no stone unturned

Verse 4
Spent days with my head in my hand
Days I cried myself to sleep
Days I roared with anger at you, at you
Forgot what blue skies looked like,
Couldn’t seem to find a way out...
As nights and days passed me by

Bridge
Gonna run into that sunshine
Gonna ride that rainbow,
Gonna bring colour to my life
Chorus
Blink of an eye, all of your ugly truths untold
As loves true colours unfolded
I stopped...stopped myself from falling...
Falling from the edge of heartbreak high...
Heatbreak high...heartbreak high...

Verse 5
oh I’m gonna stand tall
oh I’m gonna live again
I’m gonna love again
Gonna scream out loud...
I’m free again, free again

Verse 6
As light winds blow across my face
eyes opened wide...
I’m waking me up to a new day
With a new force...I’m gonna breath deep
And start again...start again...yeh....yeh...

Bridge
Gonna run into that sunshine
Gonna ride that rainbow,
Gonna bring colour to my life

Chorus
Blink of an eye, all of your ugly truths untold
As loves true colours unfolded
I stopped...stopped myself from falling...
Falling from the edge of heartbreak high...
Heatbreak high...heartbreak high...

HEARTBREAK HIGH

BETRAYAL

Verse One
Here we are face to face, after years and years
Deafening silence around us
Can’t believe it, thought this moment would never happen
Oh God, I’m folding in pain, please somebody hold me up
I’ve rehearsed this moment over and over again... yet oh no..
I’m lost for words and I’ve got so much to say....

Verse Two
Wait a second, let me catch my breath...
I need some strength to tell you what it’s been like for me all of these years
The tears have run dry now, yet my eyes still burn
Looks like time has changed you and me,
Still, you stand there innocent faced... only I can see through you

Verse Three
Do you remember the first time we met, that cold November day
Hey whoa, I walked on air that day, felt so alive that day
Cold nights in the car, listening to the same songs over and over again,
We talked and laughed until sunrise
My god... I can still hear us laughing
And time seemed to race by
Oh hey... we were so young
I lived you, believed in you...

Chorus
You promised me the world and I could see forever
You said I was you and you were me
That together forever, we would be one
Thought I love was sacred
How could you walk away
You lied, you lied, you lied

Verse Four
You caught me blindsided when you blew that fateful kiss
Whoa.. didn’t think that was the last time we’d catch the sun.. no.. no..
Broke my heart, tore my life apart
Knew then I would never love again, no never love again
Yeah knew that was the beginning of the end

Verse Five
Went downhill, hit rock bottom
Been wondering through life like a little girl lost
Staring into thin air, trying to make sense of it all
Braved a smile now and again, held it together somehow
Lived my life the best I could
But oh no, can’t help yearning for our time again...

Verse Six
Do you ever think about us, do you think about me
You said you always would...
Oh but I’ve never forgotten the day you said goodbye
Your betrayal lives on...
If for one moment I could forgive, I would run back to you again
Fall in your arms again
Feel alive again...

Chorus
You promised me the world and I could see forever
You said I was you and you were me
That together forever, we would be one
Thought I love was sacred
How could you walk away
You lied, you lied, you lied

BETRAYAL

WAR CHILD

Verse One
Excuse me,
Yes you
Can you see me, can you hear me
I’m 10 years old...
Don’t worry I’m not gonna ask you to help me
It’s too late for that
Can you see the mess around me... oh but that’s not all...
There’s a bigger mess inside my head...
They’ve killed my parents, they’re over there
My brothers and sisters have gone, I can’t see them
We were playing just a few hours ago...

Verse Two
I just want you to explain to me why... make me understand
The reasons to this madness
They say God has a plan, want you to ask him on by behalf
What kind of plan is this, what kind of game is this.....
What kind of game am I supposed to be playing...
ask him.... ask him....
tell me... tell me...
Verse Three
As the echoes of guns surround me
I run out into the open
Fall to the ground
Raise my hands to the heavens above
Deafen myself with my screams
I’m crying out loud....

Chorus
Oh Lord thy kingdom come, thy will be done
Fly me away to faraway lands
Shade me underneath the wings of angels
Wash away my soul
Wash away my soul
In clear blue waters
Let me be victorious, let me be victorious

Verse Four
Oh ...there’s that man again, he’s dressed in black, he killed my parents,
He’s back again
He’s looking at me down the barrel of his gun
It’s not his fault
He’s not pulling the trigger
That’s being done by the man behind him
And behind that man, well there’s even a bigger man
Making it all happen
Pulling all the strings

Verse Five
You see I can only work out one thing in my little head
That he doesn’t like me
He doesn’t like my sisters and brothers, my mother, my father,
my neighbours and everybody else around me
You see it’s all about hate, just hate
That wretched hate...
Oh and power...
I ask you please sir
Where you gonna go with all that power
Do you feel powerful over someone like me
Someone who can’t fight back
Someone who doesn’t want to fight back

Chorus
Oh Lord thy kingdom come, thy will be done
Fly me away to faraway lands
Shade me underneath the wings of angels
Wash away my soul
Wash away my soul
In clear blue waters
Let me be victorious, let me be victorious

Verse Six
What happens to me now
Yes... I’ll be gone in a few seconds
Please say a little prayer for me
Don’t worry
It’ll just take a moment...
And I’ll be playing... on the other side...

Verse Seven
Yes... you’ll see me for a while
Oh..You’ll feel sad for a while
But you’ll get over me
After all... this is way too much to take in
Oh but I thank you, thank you for thinking about me
Even if it’s just... a passing thought....

Chorus
Oh Lord thy kingdom come, thy will be done
Fly me to faraway lands
Shade me underneath the wings of angels
Wash away my soul
Wash away my soul
In clear blue waters
Let me be victorious, let me victorious

WAR CHILD

That was the last time

Chorus
That was the last time I felt pretty
That was the last time I laughed
That was the last time my heart danced
That was the last time life was beautiful
Life was beautiful, life was beautiful.....

Verse One
I just want to have one chance before I die
Just one moment
To look into your eyes
Search for the truth
To see that reflection of me
To see you look at me
To see if the look of love
That was once there
Is still there..... staring back at me

Oh, oh, yeah, oh, oh, yeah

Verse Two
I just wanna feel the way I felt
Way back when
When we felt so real
So let me have that last moment
Just so that I know
It was all true
That I’m still there
Somewhere in your heart

Verse Three
And that I share your thoughts sometimes
That you think about those crazy times
Just want that one moment with you
And I’m sure it will all become clear
That I’m still there with you
Somewhere deep inside

Chorus
That was the last time I felt pretty
That was the last time I laughed
That was the last time my heart danced
That was the last time life was beautiful
Life was beautiful, life was beautiful.....

Verse Four
Just want one moment
To step back to the wonder years
To live love like how we lived it
To feel love like how we felt it
Oh...to feel you touch me just a little
once again, once again, once again...

Verse Five
oh..whoa... to think we were so close
yet we’ve strayed so far apart
that we barely recognise us
but I have to believe
oh... I need to believe
to have the strength to carry on
that we shared a love like no other
oh babe... like no other

Verse Six
So here I am
Reaching out to you
Asking you for the very last time
To let me be able to carry on
Just say it, say it for the last time
So that I can rest .... I can rest easy ..
That I can breath easy
Knowing that I’ve been there all along
Oh whoa...That I’ve been there all along..

Chorus
That was the last time I felt pretty
That was the last time I laughed
That was the last time my heart danced
That was the last time life was beautiful
Life was beautiful, life was beautiful.....

THAT WAS THE LAST TIME

Confessions

Verse One
Hey do you pray, Hey do you pray
To any anyone, to anyone
Do you believe, Do you believe in anyone
Are you fearless
Do you care
Do you know where you’ve come from
Do you know where you’re going
Do you look back
Are you the master of your own destiny

Do you think about the man next to you
Does your world revolve around you
Do you have a conscience,
Is your conscience clear
Do you want to be a believer
Should you believe....

Bridge
Ask yourself, ask yourself, step back for a moment
Chorus
Confessions of a rich man
Confessions of a poor man
Confessions of a good man
Confessions of a bad man

Confessions of the morning after... of the night before
Whoa, oh oh whoa... dark, dark secrets

What goes on in your mind
My friend...
I say let’s start by talking,
Talking alot,
About nothing
About everything
You might get to know yourself ...
become a better man...

Crimes of compassion
Crimes of guilt
Crimes of greed
Those unspeakable truths
Too much to keep inside
The seven deadly sins
And we’ll go round and round
In the circle of life
Stop.... Stop.... Stop...now

Bridge
Ask yourself, ask yourself, step back for a moment

Confessions of a rich man
Confessions of a poor man

As the rich get richer
And the poor get poorer
Do you feel responsible
Do you feel good about yourself
Do you... Do you... Do you....
As yourself... is there anything you can do

Verse Six
After all is said and done
Is it too late to confess
Is it too late for forgiveness
Oh Lord!..... Oh Lord!
Forgive me for I have sinned....

Bridge
Ask yourself, ask yourself, step back for a moment

Chorus
Confessions of a rich man
Confessions of a poor man
Confessions of a good man

About Me

Bio

Hello I'm a mum of 3 and I live in Loughborough, Leicestershire.

I started writing Lyrics about 2 years ago having a light bulb moment whilst I was doing an Interior design course. I started writing my first lyrics which somehow naturally evolved into song form, I then continued writing down other ideas as and when and found myself writing further lyrics which I would then compose into song lyrics.

In 2017 I entered the UK Song Writing Contest purely for acknowledgment as to whether my abilities as a writer would qualify for the criteria's required for song/lyric writing. I entered the song lyrics for "Lost Love' and 'Vengeance' for which I received Higher Commended Entry and Commended Entry respectively.

A few of the song/lyrics have been drawn from past experiences and a couple of the songs are from a political point of view highlighting world affairs and questioning eithics.

As for musical influences I admire and am inspired by varied genres of music from 80's bands w
