Have You Heard the Story?

She danced alone in the light of the moon
And said, “I feel just like some witch that I saw in a cartoon”
She cried six tears, but they were not hers
“And if they are,” she said, “I can never know for sure
I am too alone and so afraid
There may not be a world outside the one we've made—
With our minds and in our lust”
She took out a five-dollar bill, it said, ‘In God We Trust’
Then she laughed, and she laughed again
“I don’t know you, but I believe - Abraham Lincoln -
There’s a way out of here”
With that said she took off her dress and pounded down a beer
Under the stars, by the sea
“Fourscore and seven years ago everyone was free”
Under the stars, by the sea
“Fourscore and seven years ago everyone was free
But is that really true?” this sad girl asked
“Even then there was sin, and people still wore masks
So what have we lost, and what have we gained?
There’s another man on the moon, but he doesn't look the same
As he did before they dropped the bomb
But who really gives a fxxx, I'm cute, I’m smart, I’m strong”
By now the girl was drunk, or just say she was stoned
On these thoughts that wanted God or a call from Davy Jones
“Oh that boy’s so stupid, but heaven knows he's hung
And I better get my kicks while I am still young”
Under the stars, by the sea
“Fourscore and seven years ago everyone was free”
Yeah, under the stars, by the sea
“Fourscore and seven years ago everyone was free”
So she grabbed her cell-phone, reached out for him
Put the five dollars on the water, “Goodbye Abe Lincoln”
Then her body trembled, and her heart was full of mirth
Abe Lincoln was drowning and pounding in the surf
Then they knelt together, kindly kissed sweet mother earth—
Abe Lincoln was drowning and pounding in the surf
She danced alone in the light of his gaze
And thought, “I feel just like some heroine stranded on the stage”

Sad Girl

Where do you feel it the most?
I mean, feel it because it’s real
Go there
There is no other place or time
Nowhere to go if you’re not standing
Soaring and reaching out
From within
Then cast off that old worn skin
And let this shine
Your resplendent new design
Up on the peak, what did you see?
The oceans below
All the world was yours
For a price
I watched you roll the dice
Was it really worth
What you paid for that win?
All those you destroyed for one sweet sin
Then cast off that old worn skin
And let this shine
Your resplendent new design
Neither man nor beast
Is invited to the feast
Watch from the level edge of everywhere
Keep your heart here
The table shines with candles
All the stars
Here you are
As she and he and all that you never needed
Come along
Along with the inspiration of every song
This time let them in
Feel at home in your new skin
And let love shine
For the first time
It’s your time
And let love shine
It’s damn well
About time
For the world to see
Your resplendent new design

Baby, Where'd You Get That Look? (Vocal)

You say that I am a tribute to my race
But I bet you say the same thing to the General’s face
I heard him say sometimes you bleed the bed
But sister, I don’t give a damn about anything he said

Because the old world is falling
And freedom is calling us out

There’s smoke on the horizon, and bullets underfoot
Crossbow arrows hanging from the willows by the brook
A black-gowned lady floating, she’s wearing nothing underneath
And the shawl covering her face was woven in deceit

Still the old world is falling
And freedom is calling us out

So lover, follow me, I’ve got a pistol on each hip
Please just don’t ask me how I got this limp
God, he has a way to bring a body to himself
Better a pain in my leg than a lifetime spent in hell

We will cross the border now, a company in arms
Our forces are growing by the hour, no cause for alarm
But I won’t leave you alone with those wicked boys
I know what they say by the campfire, don’t believe the noise

Because the old world is falling
And freedom is calling

Yes, the old world is falling
And freedom is calling

The old world has fallen
And freedom is calling us out

Confederate Traitors

The song rises off the setting sun
Signaling that the time to dance has come
Across the sky, the white-gowned lady laughs
In the twilight time when beauty talks down wrath
Tomorrow, it may come or it may not
But the evidence is that there is a God
So either way, if you only take my hand
We'll walk along the beach, sleep in the sand
The hour of this bliss, no need to say
Is gone with the wind, like a passing day
Like a passing day, we won't abide
Unless we dress ourselves up like a loving bride
Yet few, I hear, if the ocean can be trusted
Give a damn that our sailing ship has rusted
May not make it back to our homeland
So we'll walk into the night, sleep in the sand
Oh my words, I wish they could reflect
The way my body feels beneath your breath
Still music, sometimes, appears to convey
The unearthly thoughts I'm too afraid to say
But even if I spoke, would you understand?
No, so, that's a problem I'll leave here with God
Leave here with God, isn't that his dream for us all?
Even when we deny it, he still calls
Or even if I sang it, would you understand?
The stars above are lying with us in the sand

Sleeping Among the Stars

You're a drifter, a sort of drunken shape-shifter
A street slick word peddler
The dancing man with hands like flames
Or, so it appears
When you peddle your wares
A black-eye-liner lady on your left
Dressed up as a witch from Macbeth
Or maybe she was, she was, she was
Man, I think she was

Happier before you turned her into a lying, crying, cheap substitute for love

You call yourself a gangster, that makes you a prankster
A ragamuffin gambler or some such bluffing thing
The kind of man honest folks curse
But you praise
As you walk around town in a daze
Threatening silence with a bloody blade
Chicken shit business
But as they say, screwed-up is
What screwed-up does

You turned a good girl into a lying, crying, cheap substitute for love

It's alright, so you took my girl
She was born in a garden
Her parents named her God's Pearl
No, I'm not upset
Though I haven't woken yet
To the justice that might suit the crime
Or an emotion that might
Rein in the night
Or bring that bright day back to us

Until then I watch the room spin and cuss
In the arms of another one of the devil's stupid charms
Just a lying, crying, law defying, a damned shamed faced sighing, high flying, sorry excuse for true love

The Street Peddler

Hours beyond the getaway
She said something that struck me as strange
About having perhaps chosen the wrong one
Hours beyond the getaway
I said something that caused her pain
About having perhaps chosen the wrong one
For the journey

For the journey is long
You’ll need more than a pretty song
You’ll need more than a sharpened sword
Or a wise word
To see you through
To see you through

But I guess if we had known
How far it was from our home
Or how far our home was from heaven
I guess we would have thought twice
That night we both rolled the dice
Which determined we take nothing but our dreams
For the journey

For the journey is long
You'll need more than a pretty song
You’ll need more than a sharpened sword
Or a wise word
To see you through
To see you through

So when we reached the next series
Of tunnels that ran into the golden city
We both knew the risks but didn’t care
Descending down into the dark we went
For seven days without a hint of light
Fighting off terror and creatures of the night
What a journey it was

For the journey is long
You’ll need more than a pretty song
You’ll need more than a sharpened sword
Or a wise word
To see you through
To see you through

You’ll need to know that you love her
You’ll need to know that she loves you

Boy, don’t go
No, don’t go
It’s not a thing you’d ever want to do
If you only knew

Boy, don’t go
Give her the slip
If you don’t love her
Or if she doesn’t love you

About Me

Bio

I'm a professional writer/editor. However, my true passion is writing lyrics and songs. I've been able to put a few of my lyrics to music, with the hope of selling or licensing the songs to other artists or record labels. I've also written hundreds of lyrics (and handfuls of beats), and my goal is to sell or license these.

I write across genres - Rock, Alternative, Indie, Rap, Reggae, Blues.

I consider myself a songwriter and not a musician. I'd love to find talented musicians who are able to make beautiful songs out of my lyrics, beats, and musical sketches.
